Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE KUMP, OF XENIA, OHIO.
IMPROVED LASTING-PINCHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,055, dated January 16, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE KUMP, ot' Xenia, in the county of Green and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Pinchers for Lasting Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same, takenin the line x x, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new and irnproved pinchers for drawing` the boot or shoe overthe last, so that it may lit snugly thereto, which operation is technically termed lasting.
The invention consists of two pairs of jaws connected together and operated by a screw and toggles, as hereinafter set forth.
A A representthe two main or principal iaws of the device, which are curved in S form, and have each a circular or oval loop, a, at their center, one looptting within the other, and connected by pivots b.
lhe upper ends of the jaws A A are connected by a toggle, B, to a nut, C, through which a screw, D, passes, said screw extending down through the loops a of the jaws A A, and having its lower end fitted in a plate, E, which is connected hy a toggle, F, with the upper ends of two jaws, G G, which are connected with the jaws A A by pivots bx, as shown in Fig. 1.
The lower ends of the jaws A A andtG G are inline with each other, and it will be seen, by referring to Fig. l, that by turning the screw D down the nut C will be raised while the plate E will be moved down, and the ends of the two pairs ofjawsA A, G G, will consequently be moved toward each other and the leather firmly grasped at each side of the last, so that the boot or shoe may be stretched and drawn snugly over the last.
rIhis implement may be manipulated with the greatest. facility, and will greatly expedite the work of lasting boots and shoes.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'Ihe two pairs of jaws A A G G, in combination with the screw D, toggles B, F, nut C, and plate E, all arranged substantially in the manner as and for the purpose herein setforth.
GEORGE KUMP.
