Description

Patented May 15, 18.94.
(No Model.)
h c w c 0 9 r 5. M
w w M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. BOVYER, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
ADJUSTABLE FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,831, dated May 15,1894.
Application filed May 14,1 892. Serial No. 331 (N0 modem To all whom it may concern.-
I Be it known that 1, JOHN A. BOVYER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of San Diego, State of which may be applied, and operated with a minimum of time and labor.
My invention consists in the construction, relative arrangement and operation of the several parts constituting my improved fastoner, all of which will hereinafter fully and clearly appear from a reading of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1. illustrates in side elevation my improved fastener in position. Fig. 2. is a vertical central section of the same. Fig. 3, is a side elevation of the main portion of said fastener. Fig. 4. is a bottom view, and Figs.
5 and 6, are detail views ofthe other parts of said fastener.
Referring to the said drawings by letter, A. B. denote the parts to be connected, and to which my fastener is applied. In the part A I form a circular or other shaped opening a which receives an escutcheon 0 having a key-hole c as shown. In the other part B is secured one end of ascrew eye d, the opening 01' of which is above the escutcheon and concentric therewith. The locking device is the opening of the screw eye, the flange engaging it vertically, and.the cam when turned engaging it laterally to draw the parts together to form a tight joint. In the event of.
the joint from repeated use, becoming loose, by turning the cam the slackis taken up, and
the union made as rigid as may be required.
The fastening when made is neat, compact and easily applied and operated. The parts being placed together with the opening of the screw eye in proper relation to the escutcheon, the standard is inserted and turned sufficiently to cause the key and escutcheon to engage to prevent the withdrawal of the standard, and also to cause the cam to engage the opening in the eye and with abinding action to draw the said parts closely together.
I claim- A fastener of the class described comprising in combination, a standard having a polygonal head, and a key as described, acam and flange interposed between said head and key, a screw eye for engagement with said cam and flange, and an escutcheon for engagement with said key.
In witness whereof my signature.
JOHN A. BOVYER.
