IMPROVEMENT IN ARTIFICIAL FUEL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 5 L833, dated January 2, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL D. HOVEY, of of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Artificial Fuel; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to manufacture and use the same.
The nature of my inven tion consists in forming an improved artificial fuel by combining with coal-dust or any similar substance coaltar pitch or crude or the residuum of petroleum and common pine-pitch.
To one ton of coal-dust I add two hundred pounds of coal-tar pitch or Grade or theresiduum of petroleum and about one hundred pounds of common pine pitch or rosin. After sufficiently agitating this mass 1 press it into cakes the desired size, and it is ready for use. I am fully aware that all these substances have been previously used separately, but
never in the above -described combination. The addition of pine-pitch to the fuel makes it highly inflammable and much morevaluable SAMUEL D. HO'VEY.
