Description

(No Model.) S. G. MAPLE.
HOUSE MOVING TRUCK. Patented Mar. 27; 1894.
' sufficient to nearly fill the spaces between the UNITED STATES PATENT OFEicE,
SOLOMON C. MAPLE, OF "HEBRON, NEBRASKA.
HOUSE-MOVING TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 517,052, dated March 27, 1894.
Application filed May 31, 1893.
To all whom, it may concern:
3e it known that I, SOLOMON O. MAPLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hebron, 1n the county of Thayer and State of Nobraska, have invented a newand usefulHouse- Mov ng Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to apparatus for moving houses, the objects in View being to provlde an apparatus of this class of strong, du-- rable construction and adapted to support and transport houses or buildings of various kinds,
and to accomplish the same in such manner as to obviate anytorsional strain to the houses, thereby maintaining them intact and without ingury to their plaster, walls, &c.
Wlth these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus constructed in accordance with myinvention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts 1n both figures of the drawings.
In the construction of the apparatus I employa series of three trucks, which I will deslgnat-e for convenience as the front truck 1 and the rear trucks 2. The trucks 1 and 2 each consists of a pair of opposite heavy beams 3, which are connected at their ends by cross-rungs 4 and have their under edges between their ends provided with transversely opposite pairs of bearings 5. In these hearings 5 are arranged loose axles 6, and the axles carry heavy stout rollers 7 of lengths beams 3 of each truck. The upper sides of the beams 3 of the rear trucks thus constructed have let therein and securely bolted thereto a transverse connecting beam 8, which beam at each side of its center and adjacent to the inner beams of the trucks are provided with clevises 9.
The front truck has let into the upper side of its beams a transverse beam 10 having a central opening 11, and surmounting this beam 10, which as shown is convexed upon serial No. 476,136. (No model.)
its upper side, is a rest-beam 12, to the under side of which is secured a heavy metal plate 13, from whose under surface there depends a king-bolt14 which fits loosely within the opening 11 of the rest-beam 10. The plate projects in rear of the rest beam and has a pair of openings 15 therein, the said openings being engaged by the front ends'of a pair of draft rods 16 whose ends are hookshaped as at 17 for the purpose of engaging the openings and at their rear ends are clevises 9. The hooks are open sufficiently to be readily detached from the clevises and the plate, so that longer or shorter rods may be substituted as desired. In this manner a long or short coupling maybe maintained between the series of trucks, and thus the apparatus adapted for houses of various dimensions. It will also be seen that by reason of the triangular arrangement of the trucks houses having wings or of L or T-shape in plan may be as readily accommodated.
In operation the draft-bail19 with which the front truck is provided is secured to the usual draft rod, and it will be seen that the front truck being swiveled is capable of being turned without imparting any torsional strain to the building, whereby its plaster and framing are carefully maintained intact, and also that the said front truck is capable of oscillating without jarring the building by reason of the convexity of the beam 10.
Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a house-moving apparatus, a rear pair of rear trucks, comprising transverse rigid rollers combined with a transverse connecting beam rigidly connecting the trucks, afront centrally located truck, a rest bar swiveled thereon, and draft devices loosely. connected to the rest bar and to the transverse connectihg beam of the rear trucks, substantially as specified,
2A, In a house-moving apparatus, the combination with a pair of rear trucks and a transverse connecting beam or bar, of a front truck, a rest bar supported thereby and swiveled thereon, a perforated plate, and detachable draft rods terminating in hooks for engaging the plate and the clevises on the connecting bar, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SOLOMON O. MAPLE.
