EUGEN HOTZ, OF llIHLHAUSEN, GERMANY.
CIGAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 515,774, dated March 6, 1 894.
Application filed J' une 17, 1893.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, EUGEN HoTz, a subject yot' the Emperor of Germany, residing at Mhlhausen, Baden, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in gigars, of which the following is a specificalon.
The present invention relates to cigars, and its object is to combine means with the same whereby a medicated liquid in the form ot' a disinfectant or antiseptic'solutiou or nutritive liquid may becaused to flow into the mouth while smoking.
For this purpose, my invention consists in the means, features and combination of parts hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings accompanying this specification-Figure l represents a longitudinal, central section of a cigar embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a similar View showing the tip of the cigar severed therefrom, and Fig. 3 a transverse section of the same, while Fig. 4. represents an enlarged detail view, in side elevation, of the capsule or receptacle for the medicated liquid.
The receptacle, c, for containing the medicated liquid, is cylindrical in form and is tapered or pointed olf at each end so as to terminate in two capillaries, a tine, rear eapillary, a, and a somewhat wider front capiliary, b. This receptacle, c, is filled with a medicated liquid, for example, a disinfectant, such as peroxid of hydrogen or other nonpoisonous antiseptic, or with a nutritive liquid having therapeutic effects. This is best done by dipping the front wider capillary into the medicated liquid, and exhausting the air from Athe receptacle by suction applied to the other capillary. The receptacle is thus very rapidly filled. -When filled, the rear, finer capillary Serial No. 477,968. (No model.)
is closed by pressing the linger upon it, and the front, Wider capillary is then dipped into liquid glue or other adhesive substance, whereby a closure in the form of a cap, d, is formed on the capillary so immersed. When the sealing cap, d, is dry, the same is tested by blowing air into the rear capillary. If no liquid is forced out under this treatment, the closure is airtight, and the receptacle is ready for use. It is clear that no portion ot the liquid can escape from the rear capillary, a, if only the closure, cl, is air-tight. The rear capillary may hence remain open. The receptacle so formed and filled is wrapped into the cigar in the process of making the latter.
Upon using the cigar, the tip orend thereof is so severed that the front, sealed capillary, b, is opened. On smoking the cigar, the medicated or other liquid is sucked out of the receptacle, the necessary air for this purpose being admitted to the receptacle through the rear capillary, a.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with a cigar, of a receptacle for medicament located in the cigar and provided with a contracted opening at each end, substantially as set forth.
2. A cigar having a receptacle `for medicated or other liquid, said receptacle consisting of a cylindrical body having a capillary at each end, the capillary at the outer end vbeing sealed.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
