To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, BETTIE R. OWENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of.Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toilet vaporizing Apparatus for the Complexion, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to that type of toilet apparatus for generating medicated vapor wherein a liquid-containing vessel is provided with a discharge tube, and a sheet or flexible hood is employed which covers the head to subject the face to the action of vapor generated in the vessel and escaping through the discharge tube for steaming the face and removing or curing cutaneous diseases, pimples, freckles, and the like, and beautifying the complexion.

The objects of my invention are to improve the prior apparatus; to provide means for supporting the sheet or flexible hood and preventing it from falling against the face when wet or moistened by the vapor; to provide novel means for holding the medicating substance and rendering it conveniently accessihle in juxtaposition to the discharge nozzle or head of the vapor-conducting tube,whereby the vaporis more perfectly medicated and less medicating substance is consumed; and topi'ovide a novel construction and arrangement which render it possible to quickly and conveniently separate and clean the parts of the apparatus to make it safer and more effective in practical operation.

To accomplish all these objects my invention consists in the features of construction and the combination or arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my imp 'oyed vapor generator, the sheet or flexible hood being omitted; and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same, showing the manner in which the sheet or flexible hood is supported and connected with the generating vessel.

In order to enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, 1 will now describe the same in detail, referring to the drawings, whereinlhe numeral 1 indicates a vapor generating vessel adapted to receive a quantity of water, and to be supported upon a suitable heater for the purpose of generating steam. The vessel is preferably in the form of a truncated cone, and at its base is provided with a faucet 2, for the purpose of withdrawing the water when the apparatus is not in use. The vessel is provided at the lower edge of its rear side with a hook, eye or loop 3, by which to fasten it to a gas, oil, or other heater, and thus prevent accidental displacement of the vessel while it is in practical use. The top wall or upperend of the vessel is formed with an enlarged screw-threaded neck 4, on which is detachably screwed a closing cap 5, from the center of which rises a vertical vapor-conducting tube 6 containing a suitable damper or valve 7, and having its upper end portion turned laterally and extending approximately in a horizontal plane, as at 8, toward the front of the vessel. The end of this horizontal portion is provided with a funnel-shaped hollow head 10, having a tubular neck 12 adapted to fit upon the exterior of the horizontal portion 8, so that the hollow head can be readily removed and replaced. The hollow head is provided with a detachable cover 13having a slot let for the escape of the vapor, which slot is adapted to be closed by a valve plate 15 pivoted to the cover 13 by a suitable pivot 16. In the horizontal portion 8 of the vapor-conducting tube is arranged a cup or container 17 designed to hold the medicating substance for impregnating the vapor in transit to the head 10, in which head the vapor expands and then issues forcibly through the contracted discharge slot 14. The expansion head is a desirable feature in this type of toilet articles, in that the vapor or steam expands therein and discharges through a slot or orifice which is of contracted area to secure the best results. The medicament cup or container is supported horizontally inside the horizontal portion 8 of the vapor-conducting tube, and is provided with a suitable handle 18 for conveniently removing it from the tube when the expansion headlO is detached. By this means the device for holding the medicating substance is conveniently accessible and can be quickly replenished when occasion demands.

By-this means the sheet or flexible hood is properly supported to provide ample room for the expansion of the vapor in the space inclosed by the sheet or flexible hood, whereby the face can be effectually steamed for the purpose of removing or curing cutaneous diseases, pimples, freckles, and the like, and beautifying the complexion. The sheet-supporting yoke or frame is of such dimensions that itextends considerably above the vaporconducting tube and its expansion head, so that the sheet is supported at an elevation above these parts, as will be obvious by reference to Fig.2. The expansion head is provided with a suspension hook or loop 22 for detachably suspending a small bucket or vessel 23 designed to receive and hold the water of condensation which flows from the external surface of the expansion head. The pivoted valve plate 15 may be adjusted to close the escape slot or orifice 14 whenever it is desired to temporarily prevent the discharge of the vapor or steam, or the valve or damper 7 can be operated for the same purpose.

By constructing the several parts in the manner described and shown, the vapor-conducting tube can be quickly removed and separated into sections to facilitate cleaning the apparatus.

By supporting the medicament cup or container within the horizontal portion 8 of the vapor-conducting tube, the vapor or steam passing through the latter must flow over the cup or container, andis thus effectively medicated, which is an advantage over suspending the medicating substance in the generating vessel, as the vapor or steam flowing through the contracted passage way formed by the vapor-conducting tube is wholly forced upon the inedicating substance, and therefore thevapor or steam is more. effectively medicated. In addition to this the medicament cup or containeris more readily accessible for replenishing or cleansing purposes than where the-medicament is suspended, or otherwise arranged within the generating vessel.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. Acomplexion steamer, consisting ofa vapor generating vessel having a neckat its top portion, a cap detachably engaging-the neck and having a vapor conducting-tube rising therefrom and having a horizontally extending portion provided with a vapor expansion head, the upwardly diverging-arms secured directly to the wall of the vessel and connected by a horizontally arranged member arranged above the vapor conducting tube for supporting a sheet, and sheet-engaging devices arranged in juxtaposition to the point of connection of the diverging armswith the vessel for holding the sheet against the latter, substantially as described.

2. In a complexion steamer, the combination with a vapor-generating vessel having a neck at its top portion, of a screw-capdetachably engaging the screw-threaded neck and having a-vapor-conducting tube rising therefrom and provided with a horizontally extending portion, a medicament cup inclosed entirely within the horizontally extending partof the tube, and a funnel-shaped hollow expansion head having a contracted slot and a tubular neck which is detachably fitted to the part of said tube which contains the medicament cup, substantially as described.
