SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,560,dated February 27, 1894.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM SowDoN, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Counters, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to produce a game counter which shall be of such construction as will enable it to be readily taken up from the table or other fiat surface upon which it has been thrown or placed.

It is well known that when coins which are flat on both surfaces from edge to edge, are placed on dat surfaces, as on counters, tables and the like, it is quite difficult to lift them up with the fingers, and this is especially so, and I refer to the following for the purpose of illustrating my meaning, when the hands are gloved; and a similar diflculty is met with in lifting up counters of the construction that are now usually employed in games, as such counters are dat throughout on both surfaces from edge to edge, and they are also flat on their peripheries. By my invention, however, a game counter can be picked up without the slightest dilticulty, and in the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, I have illustrated several forms and constructions of counters, each of which embodies my invention.

In such drawings, Figure l represents a section of a counter constructed in one piece of wood, celluloid, leone, paste-board or the like, made dat on its surfaces, and having its edges beveled and covered with or inclosed in a bevel-shaped rim of metal. Fig.2 represents asection of a counter constructed of two pieces or portions of materials heretofore referredto, or other suitable material, said pieces being placed one over the other as shown, their edges being inclosed in a bevel-shaped metallicrim, as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top view of the counters shown in Figs. l and 2. Fig. 4e is asectional view of a counter constructed of two pieces of any suitable material, as pasteboard, if desired, with a block of any suitable material placed between, and the edges of the two pieces are drawn together and held or inclcsed within a bevel-shaped metallic rim, as .shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3; and gig. is a top view of the counter shown in `ig. 4. e

As will be seen I have represented in the drawings my invention in several modifications, all of which embody the essential feature of my invention that the counter shall not be flat from edge to edge, or iiat on its periphery, but shall have a beveled edge, as shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3, or shall have rounded surfaces with the edges converging, as shown in Figs. 4C and 5, whereby substantially the same results will be obtained as with the counters shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3, and the edges are inclosed and held in a metal bevel-shaped rim A, as shown, said rim holding the edges firmly together, thereby producing a bevel edge all round the counter, as will be readily seen from the drawings. It will thus be seen that a counter ernbodying my invention can be readily picked up from any flat surface, and with the counters shown in Figs. I, 2 and 3, which are perfectly flat on both sides for aportion of their surfaces, but having beveled edges, by pressing down one side of the counter by the thumb, for instance, the other side will be raised for a slight distance from the surf ace of the table or other place upon which it rests and can then be readily taken by the ngers and lifted up; and with the counters shown in Figs. 4 and 5 a similar result can be produced, since the counter has curved surfaces, and by pressing down one side or edge, as just explained with Figs. l, 2 and 3, the other side or edge of the counter will be correspondingly raised a slight distance and can then be readily taken by the ngers and lifted up.

What I claim as Iny invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A game counter consisting of two pieces of any suitable material having thin edges drawn together and-inclosed in or united to a bevel shaped metallic rim and a block interposed between said pieces at or near their center, substantially as set forth.

2. A game counter composed of any suitable material having its edges inclosed in or united to a bevel-shaped metallic rim, substantially as set forth.
