The upper horizontal end of the receptacle 2 is provided with a cover 3 which is constructed of two parts 4'and 5; the part 5 is held stationary with the top of said receptacle by a bolt 6 passing through an ear 7 and connected to an ear 8 formed on the adjacent edge of said receptacle. These pieces 4 and 5 of the cover 3 are hinged together by hinges 9.

The cover 3 is provided with an eye 10 located as shown in Fig. 1, to which one end of a rope 11 is connected. This rope passes over a pulley 12 and the opposite end is provided with a weight 13.

The pulley 12 is provided with bearings 14 connected to the adjacent side of the fence 1. The receptacle 2 is supported in position The lower end of the receptacle 2 is provided with a marginal square flange 16.. Formed in this flange is a slot 17 to allow the gate-18 to slidetherein. The slot 1 17 is opened at the top of the flange -16 toallow said gate to slide up and down therein. The upper end of the gate 18 is provided with a knob 19 for the convenience of raising and lowering said gate.

Connected to the upper end of the gate 18 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is a rope 20 which extends up a suitable distance and is engaged by a pulley 21 and the end of said rope is provided with a weight 22. This weight is of sufficient size to balance the gate 18 and return it at its upward limit when desired.

The pulley 21 is provided with bearings 23 connected to the adjacent side of the fence 1.

Formed in the lower side of the flange 16 and opening through said flange into the slot 17 is an opening 24 for the purpose of allowing water or other liquid that seeps into said slot to be carried off.

. Formed in the lower side of the receptacle 2 adjacent the opening 24 is another opening 25.

Connected to the lower side of the receptacle 2 and in alignment with the opening 25 is a pipe 26 which leads to a sewer or drain.

Hinged to the inner and upper edge of the door 29 by hinges 32are sides 33. These sides are so constructed that when the door 29 is closed they can be doubled against the inside of said door.

Connected to the outer corner of the door 29 is an ear 34 which is engagedby a rope 35, which extends upward at an angle of about forty-five degrees to the top of the opening 28 and thence upward over a pulley 36 and is provided with a weight 37.

Located between the fence 1 and the adjacent end of the receptacle 2 is a marginal strip 39. This strip is to allow room for the sides 33 of the leaf 31 so that when they are doubled down against said leaf or doorit can be readily closed.

40 indicates a groove which is formed in the upper portion of the strip 39 adjacent one corner of the opening 28 to allow the rope to pass through.

In Fig. 4 I have shown a modification the garbage receptacle being a tile or sewer pipe of common construction the marginal flange 14 being made of wood and an opening 41 formed therein to allow the end of the receptacle 2 to be placed therein. This marginal flange can be connected to the adjacent side of the fence 1 by bolts, screws, or any desired way, its location beingsubstantially the same as the location hereinbefore stated I will omit the same.

The operation is as follows: When it is desired to place garbage or the like in the receptacle 2 the operator raises the cover 4,which will give free access to the upper end of the receptacle. The weight 13 being of sufficient size when the cover is raised, it will retain the same at its upward limit. When the recep tacle is full and it is desired to clean the same, the operator opens the door 29 in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and raises the sides 33 and the ends coming in contact with the fence adjacent the opening 28 will prevent the weight 37 from closing said door. The object of having the door hinged at the bottom is so it will form a leaf 31 that a bucket or other receptacle can be placed under the same to catch the garbage. When the garbage is placed in the receptacle, the water and other liquids will immediately run to the bottom and be carried oif by the pipe 26. The water that seeps into the slot 17 is also carried 01f by the pipe 27 connecting the opening 24 with the pipe 26. WVhen the gate 18 is raised it will open the vertical end of the receptacle 2 and allow the garbage to slide out on to the leaf 31. The operator can then dispose of the same at will. After the receptacle has been cleaned the operator then closes the gate 18 and folds the sides 33 down aga nst the door 29 and when this is done the weight 37 being of sufficient size it will close said door.

What I claim is- 1. A garbage receptacle constructed of a pipe so made as to form a quarter of a circle, one end of which is provided with a marginal flange, a gate to vertically slide in said flange, and a weight so connected to said gate that it will retain the same at its upward limit, substantially as set forth.

2. The improved garbage receptacle, constructed with a normally closed lower end in combination with a cover formed in two pieces hinged together and applied to the upper end of said receptacle, one of said pieces being fixed to said receptacle, and the other piece being movable upward to uncover said upper end, and a weight connected to this movable piece to retain same in an open position after the end of the receptacle has been uncovered, substantially as herein spec-r fied.

3. A garbage receptacle constructed with a marginal flange located on one end, a slot formed in said flange, an opening formed in the lower edge of said slot, an opening formed in the lower side of the receptacle, and a pipe connected to said opening leading to a drain or sewer, substantially as set forth.

4. A garbage receptacle one end of which is provided wlth a marginal flange, a gate located in said flange to close said end, a door hinged at the bottom to close an opening adjacent the end of said receptacle said door being provided with sides hinged thereto they will fold against said door, a rope connected to the outer end of said door, and a weight connected to said rope so that it will retain said door in its closed position, substantially as set forth.
