SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,712, dated February 13, 1894.

Be it known that I, AxEL'I-IERMAN HANSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn,in the countyof Kings and State Improvements in Nose-Bags,of which the following is a specification. 1'

Myin vention consists of an automatic feeder attachment for nose bags, whereby the amount of feed admitted to the bag in the first place will be limited to a quantity most favorable for the convenience and comfort of .theanimal, and the rest will be supplied at a uniformrate until the ration is consumed as hereinafter fully described reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1,is a side elevation of my improved nose bag and feeder as applied to the head Fig. 2, is a sectional elevation of the nose bag and part of the feeding hose enlarged. Fig. 3, is a side yoke, also enlarged, and with a par-t of the receiver in section. Fig-4, is an elevation of the receiver and yoke in a view at right angles to that of Fig. 3, also enlarged.

I employa nose bag of the common form as the head of the animal in any approved way as by straps j, and in addition thereto I provide another bag as 1), adapted to be suspended from one side of thehead or'from the neck directly back of the head, and connected through its bottomc, with one side of the nose 7 bag a little above its bottomby a flexible, and preferably, a detachable hose or spout d, this bag I) being a receptacle into which the ration is put in the first place and from which a limited quantity will flow into the nose bag when the animal reaches downward as it naturally does in quest of food, the said quantity being limited by the height of the mouth of the hose above the bottom of thenose bag, and bythe elevation of the nose bag when the animal having secured a mouthful of food raises its head again' to masticate. A valve or gate is be usedas a-means of regulating the supply by setting it more or less open, and it may. also be employed to shut off the supply altogether when required, as when it may be desired to prevent the animal from access to the food for a time,or when it may be desired to supply the bag with two rations, and it is necessary to shut off the supply therein when one ration has been'consu med and the receptacle is to remain on the neck of the animal. The with if not gate may however be dispensed required.

The hose is detachably connected to the receptacle by the nozzlef, of the latter and the hosecoupling g, of the usual form on the end of the hose vto be so coupled. This may also be dispensed with but it is sometimes desirable to disconnect the parts. The receptacle 1), is attached to a wire yoke h,suitably formed to hook over the-neck of the animal directly back of the head, and provided with a throat latch 'i, for securing it; this yoke may be constructed and arranged in any approved way or straps may-be used instead.

It will be seen that with such a feeding attachment the animal will be relieved of the hinderance to feeding properly, and of the discomfort attending the use of the ordinary nose bags inwhich the nose of the animal is.

for a while too deeply immersed in the feed, andlater is out of reach of it. There is also a considerable saving of feed resulting from my improved feeding attachment, because, in consequence of the greater comfort and convenience to the animal it holds the bag more quietly, and spills less and consumes-more.

I claim- 1. The combination with the nose bag, of a feed receiver, and means for suspending it from the neckof the animal, and a flexible automatic feeding hose connecting the bottom of the receiver and the side of the nose bag substantially as described.

2. The combination with the nose bag of a feed receiver, and means for suspending it from the neck of the animal, the flexible automatic feeding hose connecting the bottom of the receiver and the side of the nose bag, and the regulating gate in the hose substantially as described.

3. The combinationwith the nose bag of a feed receiver, and means for suspending it from the neck of the animal, the flexible autom of the receiver and the side of the nose bag substantially as described.
