Be it known that I, JAMEsA. Sr. OI-IN, a citizen of the United States of Amer1ca,residing at Niles, in the countyof Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful ImprovementsinFeed-Bags,

of which the following is a specification, reference being had thereinto the accompanying drawing. j

This invention relates to feed bags, and the primary object of my invention is the provision of simple and efiectlve means, as

hereinafter set forth, for insuring perfect ventilation of the feed bag and the obtaining of feed by a horse as the feed is consumed. 1 V

Another object of this nvention is to provide an adjustable halter for supporting 1 afeed bag and a feed bag with a telescopic or flexible casing that prevents the contents of the bag from being wasted by the movement of a horses head.

A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above results by a mechanlcal construction that is durable, inexpensive to manufacture and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.

With the above and other objects n vlew, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifioally descrlbed and then claimed.

A feed bag in accordance with this 111vention comprises a pan or receptacle 1 and riveted or otherwise connected, as at 2 to the upper edges of the receptacle 1 is a band 3 that is employed for holding the lower edges of a flexible casing in engagement with the receptacle 1. that can be adjusted to fit upon horse heads f of various sizes. The straps of the halter are equipped with buckles or slip plates 14. that permit of said straps being, easily and quickly lengthened or shortened.

Secured to the bottomof the receptacle 1 by metallic straps 15 or other fastening means is an eye 16 and extending through said eye is a regulating cord or rope 17. The cord extends upwardly through guide straps 18 at diametrically opposite sidesvof said receptacle, the guide straps 18 being secured to the band 3. The cord extends over small pulleys 19 suspended from, the side rings 11, and the ends of the cord are tied to form a loop 20, as best shown in Fig. 3.

The ends of the cord 17 are also connected I by straps 21. i

As illustrated in Fig. 1, theupper ends of a collar or even carried rearwardly to the saddle or tothebacking strap of a harness. The ends of the cord 17 are movable over the small pulleys 19 and it is obvious that when a horses head is lowered that the pan or re ceptacle 1 will be elevated. As feedis consumed by a horse, it is natural that the head i be gradually lowered, consequently the horse will at all times completely empty the feed bag. It will also be noted by observing Fig.

WVhat I claim is A feed bag comprising a rigid imperforate cylindrical receptacle having a flat bottom riveted thereto and adapted to contain a quantity of feed, a band secured to the top of said receptacle, an annular flexible casing extending overthe periphery of thesaidreceptacle and secured to the lower end of said band, a stiffening ring for the upper end of said casing, diametrically opposed guide straps projecting laterally from said band,
