Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
W. O. MCGILL, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
FILE-HOLDER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 5 l,470, dated December 12,1865.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, Wl. O. MCGILL, of Oincinnati, Hamilton county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in File-Holders, ot' which the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilcation.
My invention has reference to a light elastic frame having secured to one ot' its edges a bar which presses upon whatever article is led, preventing' its escape from the elastic trame.
Figure l represents a perspective View ot' my improved tile-holder, in which is secured a number of papers. Fig. 2 is a transverse scctional view of my holder, showing` the bar and elastic or spring frame.
A is a light metallic or elastic frame, ot' which a and a' are its upper andlower bars. To the upper bar, a., and at its central point, is firmly secured the bar B. The free end b of bar B presses upon the articles in the tile-holder, thus retaining them in the desired form and place.
ai in f When a lettcror paper, c, (shown in Fig. 1,) is to be filed it is passed beneath the bar a, ot' frame A and as near as possible to a parallel plane with har B, thus enabling` an easy passage 0l" the article within the frame ot' the holder. The endeavor to force the paper bcneath the free end of bar B causes a development of elasticity in the Lipper bar, a., of frame A. -Any number ol" papers may be filed in frame A, limited only by the upper and lower bars, a a.
The frame A may be made otl steel or other elastic or springy substance which shall give to the upper bar, a, the desired elasticity.
Having described the construction and operation ot' my improvement in tile-holders, I claim- As an improved article of manufacture, a {ile-holder made and operating substantially as herein set forth.
7. C. MCGILL.
