SKATE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 5,138, dated June 5, 1847.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, B. F. SHELABARGER, of Miiiiintown, in the county of Juniata and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Method of Manufacturing Skat-es; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrption thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in casting solid with the runner of a skate, three thin plates for the heel, ball, and toe of the foot to 4rest upon, and also eyes or loops to attach the straps to for fastening the skate to the foot.
A, is the runner.
B, is the plate for the toe, C, for the ball, and D, for the heel of the foot to rest upon,-all cast solid with the upper edge of the runner. 1
7c, is a flange rising'frorn the rear side of D, for the purpose of keeping the heel firmly seated.
f, f, are small bars cast solid with, and extending from the plates B, to C, to which are made fast the toe straps for securing the -skate to the foot.
g, g, arewtransverse arms between C, and D, cast solid with and extending each side of the runner; the ends of which are united` by the longitudinal bars z', z', to which the heel straps are secured. The bars f, f, and 2', i, I generally incase with sheet copper or tin, to prevent .them from injuring the straps. o
