GOODS-EXHIBITOR.
. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 513,383, dated January 23, 1894.
Application filedPehrnary 23, 1893. Serial No. 463,395. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that we, DANIEL B. ENGLISH and STEPHEN H. HINNANT, of Way Cross, in
y bodied in a cabinet. "the drawers in detail and Fig. 4 shows a the county of -Ware and State of Georgia, have invented a new and usefullmprovement in Goods-Exhibitors, of which the following is a specification.
1 This invention is an improvement in exhibitors for goods such as dry and fancy goods comprising dress goods, laces, edges, embroideries, ribbons and the like land has for an object to provide simple means for storing such goods in such manner that the end is exposed to viewso that the goods will be well displayed and so that any quantity of any particular piece of goods may be conveniently drawn out of the support.
The invention consists in the novel constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a face view and Fig. 2 an edge view of the invention em- Fig. 3 represents one of drawer adapted to display two pieces of goods side by side.
The support A is shown as in the nature of a cabinet having sets of drawers in two op- The drawers B slide into and out of theV support A and are provided with one or more rollers C which `may be arranged one above the other and to extend from side to side of the drawer as shown in Fig. 3 or they maybe arranged side by side as shown in Fig. 4, the
drawer in such case being provided with a longitudinal partition D between its sides to support the inner ends of the rollers. At their outer ends the rollers are adapted at C to receive the hand crank E which may be operated to wind the goods onto the rollers in the irst place or to wind itback thereon If at anytimeitshouldhavebeen partiallyorwholly drawn off the roller. We tix to the latterone end of a tape or strip F to the opposite end of which the inner ends of the goods are pinned or otherwise secured. To give tension to the goods we provide in the drawers gravity bails G pivoted or journaled at their ends at g to the drawers and having their cross bars arranged to bear over the rollers to rest in practice on the goods and to operate by gravity to prevent the same from passing off too freely. In the fronts of the drawers are provided outlet slots H preferably one for each roller and arranged directly in front of its respective roller as shown. Manifestly the rollers and the outlet slots should correspond in length to the width of the goods they are designed to receive.
At the front of t-he drawers we provide the display racks I from which the ends of the goods depend. WVith the drawers arranged in vertical series it is preferred to arrange the racks relatively as shown in Fig. 2 each rack below the upper one being set out slightly farther from the drawer front than the next upper rack so that the goods will present like appearance and no piece thereof will be covered and hid by the upper piece or pieces. These racks are preferably formed as shown with an outer bar or rod i having its ends bent, forring arms t" and driven in or fixed to the drawer front and the inner rod t2 preferably held at its ends to the arms t" it may be by bending its ends around said arms as shown.
In use the goods passing out through the outlet slots pass down under the inner rod 112, thence up between rods t2 and-t', and thence down in front of the rod t' as most clearly shown in Fig. 2.
It is manifest that the use of the improvement in addition to, convenience in handling the goods, operates to economize space and also preserves the goods from damage by frequent handling as only a small part is exposed and as such exposed part is the first sold, the other portion being incased and protected as will readily appear.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a support of a se- IOO ries of drawers therein arranged one above the other, rollers in and j ournaled to the said drawers and outlets in the fronts thereof and display racks on the fronts of said drawers arranged each to project slightly farther from the front of the drawer than the next upper rack said racks being composed of inner and outer rods or bars substantially as and for the purposes set forth. V
2. In an exhibitor substantially as described, a drawer provided on its front with a display rack having inner and outer rods 2 and the outer rod i being provided at its ends with in- Wardly bent arms and the inner rod i2 being secured to said arms all substantially as set forth.
3. In an apparatus substantially as described, a drawer provided with a goods supporting roller having a tension bail arranged to bear above saidroller provided in its front with an outlet slot and having in advance of said slot a display rack having inner and outer rods 2d substantially as set forth.
4. An improved exhibitor consisting of the support the drawers movable therein and arranged in vertical series and having the outlet slots in their fronts, the rollers in said drawers and the display racks arranged at the front thereof and each projecting slightly farther than the next upper rack substantially as set forth.
5. An improved goods exhibitorconsisting of the case, drawers arranged in vertical series therein and movable in and out as de-l scribed and provided in its outer or front end 3 5 with an outlet slot and on its said end with a display rack, the rollers arranged within said drawers and adapted to receive the goods to be displayed all substantially as and for the purposes set forth. i.
