To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT B. SWANN, a" citizen of theUni ted States, and a resident of Vernon, county of Wilbarger, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hams-Hooks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
yinvention relates to improvements in hame-hooks, the objects in view being the production of a hams-hook that may be readily applied to the hames or removed therefrom, and which while in position is secure against any accidental loosening or removal;
cheap, and durable.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified and particularly pointed out in the claims.

The hook 1 has the usual external shape, in that it consists in a bent arm or hook-portion 2, and has formed at its rear or inner end the elongated cylindrical eye 3. This eye is provided at one side with an opening 4, longitudinally disposed, and forming an entrance to the longitudinal bore 5 formed throughoutthe cylindrical eye 3. This bore 5 has formed at its outer side a V-shaped groove 6, which forms a continuation of the bore or rather forms one wall thereof.
The hame-section 7 is of the usual construction and is provided with the ordinary staple 8. I
In order to apply thehook to the staple it is simply necessary to pass the eye laterally ing a passageway for the staple, and after the insertion or application of the hook to the staple a key 9 is inserted into the V-shaped groove, completely filling the same and that part of the bore which is not occupied by the staple.
The key 9 is somewhat triangular in crosssection and is provided with a concavity 10 which corresponds to the curvature of the bore in cross-section, and therefore snugly embraces that portion of the staple not embraced by the bore. The key is secured in position in any suitable manner, but preferably through the medium of a pin or binding-screw 11, which is passed laterally through a perforation 12 formed in the eye 3 and communicating with the groove 6 formed at the side of the bore.
It will be seen that at any time the hook may be removed by simply withdrawing the pin or binding-screw 11 from the perforation and the key from its position or seat. This admits of a lateral movement of the book, so that the passageway or slot 4 may be brought opposite the vertical portion of the staple and the eye withdrawn from over the same.
I construct the hook in practice somewhat heavier than the ordinary hook in order to lend additional strength, and it will be seen that the eye forms a broad bearing-portion upon which the usual wear will have but little effect.
From the foregoing description in connec tion with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that I have provided a cheap and simple construction of hook,.the same being durable and readily applied to any of the ordinary'hamesections now in use, and when so applied is secure and reliable.
Having described my invention, what I claim is I 1. The herein described hame-hook having an elongated open eye at an angle thereto adapted to loosely engage a staple, and a removable key adapted to be fitted in the eye and to clamp upon said staple, andmeans for over the staple, the slot or" opening 4 form securing the keyinposition, substantially as specified.
2. The herein described hame-hook, the same consisting of the hook portion 2, the eye 3 having a bore throughoutits length and at one side of which there is formed the V- shaped key-seat 6, and the slot at the side of the bore and communicating therewith, and the substantially triangular key 9 theinner face of which is concaved to agree with the curvature in cross-section of thebore, substantially as specified. i 10 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
