Description

B. P. TUBAGH. BOX FASTENING.
N0.51Z,'766. I Pa-tentedJan. 16,1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
EMIL F. TUBAOH, OF DUSHORE, PENNSYLVANIA. I
BOX-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,766, dated January 16, 1894.
Application filed August 24, 1893. Serial No. 483,959- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, EMIL F. TUBAOI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dushore, in the county of Sullivan and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Box-Hooks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wire box-fasteners.
To this end and to such others as the in-' vention may pertain the same consists in the peculiar construction of the fastener, all as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, and in which drawings' Figure 1 is a perspective view of a boxfastener embodying my invent-ion. Fig. 2 is a like view of a box, with the top or cover secured by means of my fastener,'and Fig. 3 is a modification of the device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings byletter, A designates the device, which is formed of a single piece of Wire having its ends sharpened. These sharpened ends extend in the same direction,'and the wire at a short distance from the ends is bent at right angles, as shown, thus forming the portions B and O, and the wire being again bent so as to extend in a line parallel with the end portions B, forms the portions D. The longitudinal center of the wire is then bent to form the loop or short curve E between the portions D, D, and the short curves F, F which are formed in the wire by this inward bending to form the central loop or curve E, are bent downward, as shown.
The use of the fastener, is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Reference being had to this view of the drawings it will be seen that the box G receives the sharpened ends of the wire of which the fastener is formed, at a point near the upper edge of the sides of the box, while the arms D, D overlap the edge of the cover or top of the box, and the downwardly curved ends F, F, fit over a strip which is fastened around the cover and extends along the outer edges of the same upon its upper side.
The device is preferably made of spring wire, which will admit of the ready removal of the fastener, which is accomplished by,
edges of the cover, and hence modifications.
in the general configurations of the body portion of the device may be necessary in certain cases. In Fig. 3 of the drawings 1 have shown one of these modifications. This modified form of the device is especially adapted for use in securing cleats t0 the top of the box, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein described wire box fastening, the same being formed of a single piece of spring wire having its ends sharpened and bent upon itself at the center and then upon itself to form parallel double armed portions, the connecting portions of which are curved downwardly to engage over a strip on a box and the portion connecting the opposite ends of the double armed portions bent downwardly, the said double armed portions being in the same plane as the sharpened ends, substantially as shown and described. 7 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
