MILKING STOOL.
Patented Je /nven for.' y,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TIMOTHY MCMONAGLE, OF PORT HURON, MICHIGAN.
4lvnLKlNe-STOOI..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,260, dated January 2,1894.
Application filed August 3, 1893. Serial No. 482.269. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY MOMONAGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Milking-Stools, which is made and used substantially as set forth hereinafter, and as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing the stool in position for use. Fig. 2, shows the same folded up. Fig. 3, shows a detail of bottom board.
This invention consists in providing a milking stool with a base board having a pail support in front and seat in the rear, both arranged to fold down ilat One onto the other, when not in use; and in details therein.
The base board B has cross bars B under its ends to enable it to set steady on rough ground, and has a series ot' standards pivoted on its sides, as shown. Four standards F, F', are arranged in a quadrangle and pivoted to the front Of the board'B below, and to a frame D, above, so as to fold down as in Fig. 2, and to rise as in Fig. 1. The frame D is arranged to t a milk pail A, and hold it in suitable position for use in milking. The standards F have braces H, pivoted to them near the to'p with their lower ends in slots G', in the board B, arranged so as to be stepped to hold the frame and pail from falling forward, at a point having just enough overhang to prevent falling backward; and so as to allow the frame to fold backward when the pail is removed. These braces have key braces L pivoted to the standards F to lock them from backward motion until they are turned out of the way. Four standards, E, E', are piv- Otedin the rear in a like way, with braces, slots, key braces and top frames, in a similar way by reverse arrangement, so as to hold up a seat formed of canvas or other material on a frame C, and allow it to fold down onto the front frame, when not in use. The board Bis wider in the rear so that the standards and frame will fold down over and at the sides of the front frame for compactness.
Various modifications may be made.
I claim- 1. A milking stool having an elongated base board, and a series of standards, pivoted in sets on Opposite sides of said base board, near one end thereof, and adapted to support a milk pail, and a similar series of standards at the other end of said board, pivoted to it in a similar way, and a seat mounted on the top ends of such second series of standards, both series of standards being adapted to be folded down onto said board so as to lie one set on the other for convenience in carrying.
' 2. A milking stool having an elongated base board and two series of standards pivoted to its Opposite sides one set near each end, and one set adapted to bear a milking pail, and the Other bearing a seat, and both sets being adapted to stand erect in use and to fold down one onto the other when not in use, and having oblique braces pivoted to one or more of each set Of standards and set in slots in the base board and adapted to hold the standards upright in use and to slide in the slots to let them fold down, substantially as set forth.
