L. C. PISHERI DOOR PLATE HOLDER.
,177. Patented Janl 2, 1894.

DOOR-PLATE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,177, dated January 2, 1894.
Application filed April 8,1893. Serial No. 469,585. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEMAN O. FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wellington, in the county of Sumner and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Plate Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an adjustable holder or frame for a door plate, or for name plates or labels of various kinds, so constructed and arranged that it may be readily lengthened or shortened to accommodate plates of various dimensions or to correspond with the length of the name inscribed on a plate which is to be attached by means of said frame or holder to a door or other object.
My invention consists in a name plate holder or frame composed of adjustably connected parts so constructed and arranged that the holder may be lengthened or shortened as required and provided with means for being detachably secured in place upon a door or other objectafter the name plate has been inserted in proper position.
In the annexed drawings illustrating the invention: Figure 1 is a front view of my improved name plate holder partly extended. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a View of the several parts of the holder detached.
The holder or frame is composed of two main parts designated by the numeral 1 and preferably semi-elliptical in form. Each of these parts or frame sections 1 is provided on its sides and at its closed end with perforated lugs 2 for the passage of screws by which it may be fastened to a door.
The front of each frame section 1 is preferably convexed or rounded as shown in Fig. 1 and its rear face is correspondingly grooved or concaved to form guideways or channels 3 for a pair of oblong longitudinally sliding bars at by which the two main frame sections 1 are connected. These connecting bars 4.
may be concavo-convex in cross-section, or of other suitable form, and their fronts should be finished to correspond with the front of The connecting bars 4 the frame or holder.
may be held in the channels or guideways 30f the main frame sections 1 by frictional engagement only, and it will be seen that by sliding one or both of the main parts 1 upon these bars by the frame or holder may be lengthened or shortened as required to suit the length of the name plate 5 which will rest in the back of the frame. The opening inclosed by the frame or holder may be either rectangular or rounded at its ends to correspond with the shape of the name plate; and for the purpose of affording a seat for the name plate a ledge 6 is preferably provided around the rear face ofthe holder. After the name plate has been placed in position and the holder-adj usted to the required length to properly inclose and support said plate they may be secured together upon a door or other object by means of screws or similar fastenings inserted through the perforated lugs.
The several parts of the holder may be made of sheet or cast metal or other suitable material and may be molded, cut, carved, stamped or pressed into the required form or be otherwise shaped in any convenient manner.
The name plate may be composed of glass, porcelain, Wood or any suitable metal or other material and the letters or characters may be marked or shown thereon in any suitable or well known way. If desired, the name plate may be made of glass blocks or sections, each bearing a letter produced thereon in any suitable manner.
WVhat I claim as my invention isl. An adjustable name plate frame or holder composed of two main sections or ends and two connecting bars, and in which the several parts have a sliding connection, substantially as described.
2. An adjustable name plate frame or holdor composed of main frame sections having their rear faces provided with grooves or guideways and connecting bars inserted in said guideways, whereby the parts are adapted to slide on each other for adjusting the frame or holder, substantially as described.
3. A door-plate frame or holder, consisting of adjustable main sections each provided with a series of perforated attaching lugs,
and a connecting medium between the main sections and on which the latter are slidable 5 to and from each other, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEMAN O. FISHER.
