Score-Boards, of which the following is a specification. V,
The invention relates to a combined directory and score board for the use ofclubs' and societies and will be found particularly useful for displaying the names of the members of golf clubs, and for keeping track of the individual scores of the members.
"With slight variations the invention may be applied to various forms of directories or bulletin boards and adapted to convey information of various sorts to those interested.
In the embodiment of the invention which I have shown in the accompanying drawings the device is adapted for use as a directory and score board for golf clubs.
In said drawings, Figure 1, is a front elevation partly broken away showing the score beard composed of two panels for the display of names, alphabetically arranged, and showing two different forms of movable indicators. Fig. 2, is a plan view showing the back or reverse side of two such sections and being partly broken away. Fig. 3, is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fig.1, and Fig. i, is a section on the line ir-4.
In the drawings, 5represents the side and 6 the end members of a frame of panel-like formation, said members being preferably composed of metal and grooved or chamfered on their inner faces as shown at 7 and 8 to receive a sheet of glass or other transparent protective covering 9. Arranged behind this sheet of glass are a series of flexible cardboard strips 10 on which are placed the names to be displayed, together with in deX letters and other headings such as the words I-Iigh score, Handicap, as shown in Fig. 1. The names may be displayed by means of gummed letters, preferably white, the surface of the strips 10 being of a contrasting color. Each of these flexible strips is provided with one or more apertures or seats 11 to receive a number insert 12 under the headings High score, Handicap, the purpose of using the insert being to enable the flexible strip 10 to be used continuously notwithstanding changes in the high score and have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Directories and,
handicap. proper .position. against the, back of the transparent covering plate and prevent their. sli pi -,1 preferably employ a heavy sheet 13, of felt or other cloth and this sheet of cloth-preferably has itsmargins clamped 'To hold the flexible stripsfin against the frame members o-and is held in place by the backing board 14: which is rei iovably "of the latches 15"engaging the heads of screws 16 'projectingfrom 13116163.]? faces of seciirechto the frame by means the frame plates. 1
It is preferable, although not essential, to
use in connection with the construction above described some form of indicator for indicating the presence at or absence of the members from the grounds or links. In the present instance I have shown in connection with my invention two forms of the indicators which, however, are not of the essence of my invention. 1
As shown at the left of Fig. 1, the side member 5 of the'frame is provided with a series of apertures 17 preferably two opposite each name displayed, and movable indicators such as the peg 18 are inserted in the one or the other of these apertures to indicate whether the person opposite whose name the peg is placed is in the club house or on the links.
Instead of the separate apertures 17 I may employ a bar or frame member 5 having acontinuous slot 19 as shown between the adjacent panels in Fig. 1 and an indicator 2O composed of a metal peg or pin having a longitudinal slot 21 formed therein the furcations 20 20 affording spring members for holding the peg in place. prefer also to bevel one or both sides of this peg so as to give the spring legs a wedging action as well.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that this device afiords a convenient directory for the members of a club and may, if desired, have provision for It will also be seen that the principle of the invention is capable of extended and varied application and may be carried out in modified structural form. While I have shown the device compose of a-numloer i of parts which are readily assembled and capable of being readily changed to correspond with changes in memindicat-, ing their presence at or absence from the 7 club house and, if desired, their whereabouts if upon the premises.
bership and the like sOme' of the advantages of my invention may be secured in a structure wherein some of the parts are made integral.
The chief novel featuresofthe device relate to the provision of; movable indicators irrespective of their form or mode of appli-' cation, l and the employment of V removable lnserts in played;
plates being provided with connection with the names dis- I claim:
7 '1; A directory comprising frame, a plu- VI 111;; aperture extending entirely through the face of the name plate, and a removable data-bearing insert fitted in said aperture to lie flush with the plate.
2. A directory comprising a frame, a plurality of independently removable name plates arranged in said frame, each of said name plates having an insert-receiving recess forming a. seat for a removable insert, and a data-bearing insert of substantially the same, thickness as the name plate removably' fitted in said recess.
