IMPROVED METHOD OF APPLYING COLORS TO WOOD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. SL194, dated November 28, 1665.
To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown thatI, EDWARD KNABESCHUCH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improven'ients in Coloring and Polishing Vood and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which willenable others skilled in the art to fully understand and make use of the same.
The present invention relates to the mode by which colors are applied to wood, whereby a beautiful polish and finish is given thereto; and itconsists in taking any of the ordinary colors, such as red, blue, and yellow, and, with a piece of cotton-batting or other suitable pad, applyingin a powdered state such one of them as is desired to the surface of the wood, using therewith a solution of alcohol and shellac, the proportion of alcohol being sufficient to dissolve the shellac, and rubbing the color into the grain of the wood, the rubbing operation serving to impart a polish and finish thereto, and the alcohol and shellac setting the color.

I do n0t,intend to limit myself to the use of any one particular color, or combinations of colors, as it is obvious this will admit of innumerable variations.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent Applying colors to wood, substantially in the manner described and for the purposes specified.
