SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,910, dated December 5, 1893.

Beit known that I, HANS HOLDEN JENSEN, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Dry Closets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specilication.

This invention has relation to new and useful improvements in dry closets.

The object of this invention is to provide a cistern that shall be simple of construction and adapted to be used in localities devoid of sewer systems.

Fig. 9 is a top View of the connecting sleeve, and Fig. l0 a top View of the reservoir.

In the drawings forming part of this speciication, A represents the reservoir or cistern of my improved closet, which is preferablyT a round metallic vessel, provided with a projecting and extending collar A', a bail, and an air tight cover. The latter is however only used when the reservoir is to be emptied.

B is a metallic sleeve adapted to seat within the collar A ofthe reservoir A and provided With the extending flange C, which is suitably braced, and within which the neck D of the drip-pan E is adapted to telescope. The drip-pan E, is of a suitable conformation and is encompassed by an open ended Wedgeshaped circular yoke F, of increasing capacity, which forms the upper part of the neck D, and acts as adraft Way, by means of which the gases may escape as will be understood by referringto Fig. 3. The circular yoke F terminates in a neck H, so that the device maybe brought into open air communication by means ot' suitable pipes. The drippan E, proper, terminates below the collar F as shown in Fig. 3. and is connected to the seat I as shown. The Whole device is preferably mounted within a suitable cabinet, and brought into connection with the chimney draft.

In assembling the device, the reservoir is first placed within its guides at the bottom of the stand, and the metallic sleeve B placed within the collar A at the upper end of said reservoir. The neck D of the drip-pan E is next adjusted within the flange of the sleeve B, when the assembled device is connected by means of pipes with the chimney ilue, or led directly into the open air. In front and at the side the stand is provided with narrow slots, so as to permitacurrent of air as shown by arrows in Figs. 2 and 3, which enters the drip-pan, and 'then circles into the yoke F and escaping out of the flue, prevents any odors from escaping into the room.

The device is exceedingly simple and readily operated and assembled.

Having thus described my said invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-

1. In a dry closet, the combination with a portable reservoir, of a removable lid, provided with an annular flanged opening, and a drip-pan, adapted to be adj ustably held within said flanged opening and comprising a funnel-shaped pan, provided with an extending neck, and an open ended intermediate yoke encompassing said neck, and adapted to be in pipe connection with a flue or chimney, so as to form a draft way, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a dry closet, the combination of the reservoirA iianged lid B, and drip-pan E, provided With the neck D, and intermediate yoke F, all arranged substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
