SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,613, dated November 28,1893.
Application filed May 11, 1893.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LINUS S. DENIsoN, of Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TackExtractors and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in tack-extractors; and it consists, particularly, in an improvement of the implement disclosed in United States Letters Patent, No. 233,599, granted October 26, 1880, the object being to construct a device for the purpose indicated whereby the tack is more efficiently seized, and extracted with greater facility.
With this object in view, my invention ,consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective of a tool embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 shows a detail in section on line 3-3, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the stock o1' handle of my improved tool, the same having rigidly secured thereto a pair of stationary jaws, B, that are located a suitable distance apart for accommodating the location and operation between them of a pair of movable jaws, D, pivotally secured to the stationary jaws, as at C. Jaws B and D, at their free ends, terminate in curved points, l) and d, respectively, but the curved points of the one pair of jaws are arranged or disposed oppositely to the curved points of the other pair of jaws, and the points of the movable jaws are separated to correspond or approximately correspond to the distance apart of the stationary jaws, the arrangement of parts being such that in the operation of the tool, the two pair of jaws shall engage and seize the tack from opposite sides, respectively, and at four points. tails of the two jaws being preferably riveted or suitably secured together, as shown at D2, Fig. 3.
By the construction hereinbefore described, it will be observed that upon placing the implement in proper position relative to the tack to be extracted, with tails D of jaws D engaging the floor, by pressing down upon the handle or stock of the tool, the two pairs of jaws will be caused to engage and seize the head of the tack at four different points, thereby rendering the positive extraction of the tack an easy matter.
Tails D of the movable jaws of the implement, it will be observed, serve as a fulcrum in the tack extracting operation.

A tack-extractorconsisting of a stock or` handle, a pair of jaws rigidly secured to the stock or handle, a pairof movable jaws piv'- otally secured to the stationary jaws, the two pairs of jaws terminating at their free ends in curved points and the movable pair of jaws having tails D', substantially as indicated, the points of cach pair of jaws being located a corresponding or approximately corresponding distance apart, and the points of one pair of jaws being oppositely arranged or disposed relative to the points of the other pair of jaws, substantially as set forth.
2. A tack-extractor consisting of a stock or handle A, stationary-jaws B B, movable jaws D D, pivoted, as at C, to and between the stationary jaws and having tails D rigidly secured together, said jaws having oppositely arranged points Z9 b andd d, respectively, for engaging and seizing the tack at four different points, substantially as shown, for the purpose specified.
