SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,675, dated November 14, 1893.

Application filed February 13, 1890. Renewed July 31, 1893. Serial No. 482,016. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WARREN L. BRADDOCK,. of Boston, in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles for Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates particularly to buckles employed in connection with garment supporters; it being the object of my invention to so construct a buckle as that the tongues shall be covered by attached straps and therefore be not liable to catch into the garments of the wearer, or in any way affect or injure the person.

My invention consists of a buckle hereinafter described comprising in its construction a spring yoke or loop frame embracing a triangular portion to which a strap may be permanently attached, intermediate bars or branches affording a rest for the free ends of the tongue, and inturned ends which provide a bearing for a tubular tongue bar constructed so as to be pivoted upon said inturned ends, the said tongue bar being provided with tongues which are adapted to rest upon the intermediate bar, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in' the claim.

Reference is to be had to the annexed drawings, and to the letters marked-thereon, forming a part of this specification, the same letters indicating the same parts or features, as

the case may be, wherever they occur.

In the drawings: Figure 1, represents my improved buckle with one strap permanently attached thereto, and another strap buckled thereon. Fig. 2, is afront View of the buckle partially in section drawn to an enlarged scale. Fig. 3, is a transverse section of- Fig. 2. Fig. 4:, is a slight modification of the form of buckle shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5, is a transverse section of. Fig. 4. Fig. 6, is a front View of the form shown in Fig. 2.

In carrying out my invention, I construct a buckle with a yoke or loop frame a of triangular form, to which a strap may be permanently secured by sewing or looping, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper portion of the buckle is provided with a tongue bar I), having tongues c. This tongue bar I) is pivoted upon the inturned ends I) of the frame a, in

such manner thatthe tongues may extend toward and rest upon the intermediate bar or branches b of the yoke or loop frame a, so that the end of the strap to be buckled upon the device may be passed beneath the tongue bar band under the tongues c; with this arrangementthetonguecmay bepassedthrough the free end of the attached strap and rest upon the intermediate bar or branches 5*, the free end of the strap covering the points of the tongues, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1, and as will be understood byan inspection of the remaining figures of the drawings.

The tongue bar I) may be formed as a sleeve and the tongues constructed from a length of Wire, the body portion of which is arranged in the sleeve, and the ends of which having the tongues extend through holes in the sleeve at right angles to the operated portion, as is shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 6, or the tongues may form a portion of a sleeve which may be struck up from a piece of sheet metal, as is shown in Figs. 4 and 5. These variations in the form of my improved buckle illustrate the fact that changes maybe made in the construction and arrangement of parts of the same without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention.

What I claim is The herein described buckle comprising in its construction the spring yoke embracing the triangular lower portion, the intermediate bar or branches, and the inturned ends, the tubular bar pivotally mounted upon the said ends and carrying the tongues cwhich are adapted to rest upon the intermediate bar, substantially as set forth.
