UNITED SIA-Tnsv WILLIAM N. i-IUNTER, or CINCINNATI, CHIC,
AssICNoR To GEORGE E.
ADAMSi-O'ECHICAG'O, ILLINOIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters atent No. 508,019',- dated vember 7,1893.
' Applicationfneanovemherso,1892. seanNema-ezs. tnqwdei.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern: Beit known that I, WILLIAM N. HUNTER,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, .in the county of vHamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Toy Savings-Bank, of whichthe following is a specilication.
'spaces in which sentences. or words are writ- My invention relates to mechanical savings banks and Inyobject's are, to provide a system of mechanism which will operate, to carry m'oneyin the form of coininto the interior-of a locked bointheweight of the coin, which may be of any denominatiomserving to cause the movement of a wheel near the marginal edge thereof, are. made ten which signify any sentiment 'or saying whichmay be amusing, that practicemay dictate, and, in order that the results may bev moreY effectual, I have provided a screen or vcoverfor the face of the above4 mentioned wheel, which l vided withan opening at one side of dimen-y cover isv stationary and is' prosion's sucient to permit seeingthe words or sentences in but'one or'two spaces at one ular space, and but one at having such a form as to permit this being-accomplished, as will .be hereinafter described..
Another object is,
moved by the vusual method of shaking, or'by turning the case inv any particular position. Still another object is, to provide 'a false 4 bottom for. the coin receptacle of the bank,
. this bottom being in the falsev bottom being vheld above the bottom proper of the case,
the false bottom'having a portion next the doorof the coin receptacle which is formed to receive a hooked projecand when the door is closedl serves asa lock to prevent the'doorbeing Y opened until some .designatedamount Vof moneyis deposited in thebank, the weight of the money serving to depress thefalse'bottom and unlatch the door which can then be upon lwhose face,
to provide means where- 'by the coin when once deposited Within the case. forming the savings bank cannot be re- 4, into which buckets the coins I are dropped Jand J' forming a. with no other opening between the. top and` y than the transv verse slitfrom front to back of the casev at K, where the lower edges of these pieces fail to v open ed and the contents of the'bank removed,
all of which construction is` explained more fully hereinafter, and panying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation ofthe case of savings. bank inlwhich is embodied my improvements. Fig. 2, is a frontelevation, simi-v lar to'Fig. 1, but on a smaller scale, the entire front portion ofthe caseand indicator being removed to show manner of construction ofthe interior mechanism, and italso shows a small portion of the top of the case brokenaway t show position of the coin slot. Fig. 3' is an elevation of the interior mechanism of the case, looking in at the right hand side of Fig.
2, in the direction ot arrow A, the section of v the case being'on line B. C. of '-Fig. 2, 'at the .back thereof, but-the -front section is vertical downY through the center of the indicator dial.
. Fig. 4 is Va portionof the wheel into whose buckets the coins are dropped, caus- 'ing the wheel to revolve, one-side of this wheel being removed in ythis figure to show` the position of the buckets. Fig. 5 is a perspective'view of the false bottom hereinbefore'rnentioned.
. Similar letters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Dis the .-case, E the indicator dial, and F a short doorl at the rear of the casey near the bottom thereof, which door is hinged vto the back 'ofthe caseat F', so as to open outward and, upward.v -At G and G are pieces which project from onel side of the inside of the case,'a'nd at theends of these pieces, between them, is pivotallymounted H, which is provided with ets H around its periphery, as shown in Fig. from the slot I at the top of the case. below wheel Hare'pieces J and J', which are inclined from the inside of the casetoward'the center thereof, these pieces partition across thecase bottom portions of thecase meet by 'a distanceV of alittle more than the is shown in the acconr' l thebuclfIet-wheell aniunber of buck-- sides of the introduced in the slotl If at the top of 'thecase i roo thickness of the thickest coin which may beI l f rol door as shown, the lower edge of hook projecting` downward sutciently to permit the opening of door F only when false bottom MA is depressed at the free end almost. to .the bottom of the case. At l? is aidownwardly projecting piece from the top ofthe case, which piece is wider than the width of wheel H, and eiectually prevents the coin droppedV down througlx.slot 1; fromfailing totali into some 4bucket of thewheel, should.- thel coin strike zo. one of the divisionsbet-ween thebnckets.
