AUGUST WERNER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
TOBACCO-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,951, dated October 31, 1893.
Application filed August 17,1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUS WE NEE, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New ments in Tobacco-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for cleansing a tobacco pipe or removing the nicotine and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a pipe. Fig. 3 is a section along a: a: Fig. 1.
Inthe drawings the letter A indicates the bowl of the pipe. B is the stern and O is the mouth piece having a tubular part or socket tubular part or socket C, as here shown, is composed of a ferrule having ascrew-threaded connection with the mouth piece. Into the stem is slipped agoose quill D, provided with splitting the end of the quill .to form wings or lips E. The wings E project beyond the edge of stem B and when the ferrule O is slipped into place it bends back the wings or tremity of the stem B, so that the wings are firmly held between the stem and ferrule, keeping the goose quill in place. The goose Serial No. 483.36% (No model.)
quill collects the nicotine and objectionable matterand whenever it is desired the goose quill can be removed and replaced by a new one, or the used quill can be washed so as to be put in condition for further use. As the goose quills can be obtained readily and cheaply a supply of quills can be given without material sacrifice to a purchaser of a pipe, who can readily remove a used quill by slipping off the ferrule. .1
My cleaning device can be easily applied to a pipe simply by reducing the outer end of the stem. B sufficiently to make room for the wings E which are held in place by the ferrule.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a tobacco pipe, the combination with the stem having an annular depression at its extremity, of a goose quill inserted into the stem and having a split outer end to form wings or lips which are bent around into the annular depression at the end of the stem, and a mouth piece having a ferrule slipped over the stem and the bent wings or lips of the quill, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUST WERNER.
