Description

(No Model.) I I H. Pi HA-MB-RUGH.
CORSET GLASPL No. 507,679. Patented Oct 31, 1893.
' fly! 13 z} l I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEINRICH FRIEDRICH HAMBRUOH, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY, ASIGNOR TO .ROBERT HINRIOHSEN, OF SAME PLACE. 1
CORSET-C LAS P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,679, dated October 31, 1893.
Application filed August 4, 1893. Serial No. 482,362. (No model.) Patented in Germany April 14, 1892, No. 66,897, and in France July 30, 1892, No. 218.765-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH FRIEDRICH HAMBRUOH, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Hamburg, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset-Clasps, (for which I have obtained patents in Germany, No. 66,897, dated April 14, 1892, and in France, No. 218,765, dated July 30, 1892,) of which the IO following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in corset-clasps, and the object of the same is to produce such a cooperation between a headed stud and a peculiar catch or loop having an elastic bottom-plate provided with an orifice and a contracted slot, that the concave recess or cavity of the catch or loop, which is opposite and somewhat displaced to the said orifice of the elastic bottom-plate, effects a displacingor moving of the headed stud not only during the closing but also during the opening of the clasp so that a loosening of the latter may be effected by simply lifting the catch or loop with a light jerk without 2 5 necessitating approach of the corset-stays one to the other as is required with the corsetclasps hitherto in use. I attain this object by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- 0 Figure 1 is a vertical section of the clasp, the parts being in the beginning of closing. F1g. 2 is a plan of Fig.1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the clasp, the parts being in closed posltion. Fig. 4 is a plan of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the catch or loop. Fig. 6 shows a top view of stretched catch or loop.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The clasp consists of a catch or loop I) attached to the corset-stay a and adapted to recelve and to lock the head d; of a stud d fixed to the other corset-stay c.
The downward bent elastic bottom-plate b of the catch or loop is slitted and provided wlth an enlarged orifice 1) extending into a contracted slot 1) adapted to embrace the neck of the stud when the latter has been pushed into the catch or loop. As the diameter of the orifice b is a little smaller than that of the head cl the branches of the bottom-plate b, surrounding the orifice 11 will be pushed aside as soon as the head 01 of the stud, put into the orifice b is passing through the latter by pressing upon the catch or loop. The head d having passed through the orifice b enters into a concave recess or cavity 5 of the catch or loop, which recess or cavity being somewhat displaced with regard to the orifice b causes the stud to slide forward into the slot 6 so that the parts interlock asshown by Figs. 3 and 4. t
In order to loosen or open the clasp it is only necessary to lift the fore-end ofthe catch or loop on exerting a light pressure from below, whereby the head d is forced to slide back and out of the recess or cavity b and to come just before the orifice b in consequence of the above described displaced positions of the recess or cavity 12 and the orifice b and it requires then but a light jerk without pushing together the corset-stays to release the catch or loop from the head of the stud.
The peculiar arrangement and mode of operating of the catch or loop render it p0ssible to construct or manufacture the latter of one single piece.
Having now fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
In a corset clasp, the combination with a stay provided. with a headed stud, of a stay having secured thereto a clasp I) provided with a cavity, as b and constructed with the recurved elastic portion 1) having formed 85 therein a circular slot b and recess b for the head and shank of the aforesaid stud, said slot being out of alignment with the cavity 17 and having elastic encompassing walls or fingers, substantially as and for the purpose set 9 forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name,in presence of two witnesses, this 15th day of July, 1893.
HEINRICH FRIEDRICH HAMBRUCH.
