Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES GARRETT, OF VISALIA, CALIFORNIA.
HEADER ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,427, dated October 24:, 1893.
Application filed November 12, 1892- Serial No. 451,740. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES GARRETT, of Visalia, in the county of Tulare and State of Oalifornia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Header Attachments; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improvement in attachments for headers, by means of which the wagon may be relieved to a considerable amount, of the direct weight of the spout.
The invention is especially applicable when the ground is rough as, by means of my attachment the jar on the Wagon caused by the oscillations of the spout is greatly lessened.
My invention more particularly resides in the novel combination, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and set forth in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference designate correspondin g parts, Figure 1 is a perspective view of aheader spout with my invention attached. Fig. 2 is a section of the spring and connections.
A is a header spout of ordinary construction, the end of which is supported by means of the bail B and rope O. The latter, after passing over the pulley D is secured to the springEby means of the rod F. The spring E is incased in the cylinder G, which is secured to the header by means of bolts H, or
other suitable means. The strength or play of the spring is regulated by means of the nut I,which engages with threads on the rod F.
The construction and arrangement of the several parts of my invention being thus made known, the operation and advantages of the same will, it is thought, be readily understood. I am aware that changes in the form and proportion of parts of the device herein shown and described as an embodiment of my invention, can be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the scope of myinvention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a header, and a spout pivoted thereto, of a casing secured to the header, a rod passed therethrough, a spring around said rod with one end bearing against the end of said casing, a nut on the rod bearing against the other end of said spring, and a pivotal connection and cord between the outer end of the spout and the said rod, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES GARRETT. Witnesses:
J. 0. BROWN, M. C. WOODARD.
