VENTlLATlNG-RING FOR HEATlN G-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,310, dated October 10, 1893. Application filed November 14, 1892. Serial No. 451,955. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
' Be it known that 1, CHARLES L. FEATHER- STON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ada, in the county of Norman and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilating-Bin gs for Heating-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of stoves and furnaces and particularly to a sheet iron parlor heating stove, and its novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings; and the object of the invention is to providea stove with a ventilating ring of novel and peculiar construction, which can be readily and conveniently operated, not only to throw the heat of the stove into a room, but when opened, it will force the smoke, (which invariably rises to the top of a stove when the fuel opening is uncovered) into the smoke pipe and out of the stove.
In the accompanying drawings formingpart of this application, Figure 1 is an elevation of a stove with my ring applied. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof. Fig.3 is a perspective view of the ring, and Fig. 4 is a sectional View of the ring.
The same reference numerals denote the same parts throughout the several figures of. the drawings.
The stove shown in the drawings, is simply for the purpose of illustrating the position of the ventilating ring, and does not form any part of the invention.
1, denotes the smoke flue or pipe; 2, the draft; 3, the cover for the fuel opening, and t a projection or flange upon the outside of the stove.
Near the top of the stove at its front and above the plane of the smoke pipe 1, is formed a series of apertures 5.
6, denotes the ventilating ring which is made from a single strip ofmetal having its ends rounded by being rolled out and together, upon the same horizontal plane with the body of the ring, to form a projection 7, which is screw threaded or it may be otherwise arranged to receive the handle 8. Opposite the rolled ends, are formed, in the ring, a series of apertures 9, which register with the apertures 5 in the stove, when thering 6 is seated upon the flange 4:, so as to be turned. It will be observed that the apertures 5 are made only in the front of the stove, while the apertures 9 are made only in the rear, or the portion of the ring opposite the rolled ends; this construction is for the purpose of taking the heat through said apertures from the stove at a point as far distant from the smoke pipe as possible so as to avoid the least smoke, and when the fuel'opening is uncovered a strong draft is produced directly across the stove, which forces the smoke out through its proper channel, and prevents its escape into the room.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a heating stove having ventilating apertures, of the ventilating ring 6, formed of a single strip of metal having its ends rolled out and together from the body of the ring and screw-threaded, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a heating stove having a series of ventilating aperturesin its top, the ventilating ring formed of a-single strip of metal also provided with a series of ventilating apertures, and the handle projection 7 formed by rolling the two ends of the ring together upon the same horizontal plane with the body of the ring, substantially as set forth.
