Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD TEMMEL, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
BELTINQ.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,142, dated September 19,1893.
Application led December 17, 1892. Serial No. 455,479. (No model.) i
To all whom t may concern,.-
Beit known that I, RICHARD TEMMEL, of Berlin, in the Kingdom' of Prussia and German Empire, have invented new and useful lBelts and Ropes of All Kinds with Layers of Cane, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of the present invention illustrated by the accompanying drawings and described in the following specification is to remove the drawbacks which are usually prevalent in the ordinary belts and driving bands by inserting strips of cane.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention as follows:
Figure 1 is a top view of apiece of the belt from which a piece of the upper covering material has been removed. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a cross section.
The belt shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is made in the following manner: strips ofcane of suitable width are glued upon the top surface of the belt a, which may have any desired width and strength, a proper distance being left between the separate strips. Thereafter, a second belt h is sewed, glued or bolted. over the` whole. The strips of cane, that have to be inserted are cnt by means of suitable apparatus in lengths up to about eight meters and a width of eight 1ni1limeters,-principally of Spanish or Tokiocane in such a manner that they lose none of their elasticity and tensile strength.
I claim as my invention-- The improved belt comprising the upper and lower sections with a series of parallel strips of cane between, and rivets uniting said upper and lower sections and passing through the spaces between the strips, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD TEMMIEL.
