Be it known that I, JOHN HOUSE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Crisfield, in the county of Somerset, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Attachments for Lamps, of which the following is a specification.

Myinvention has relation to improvements in lamps for heating purposes, and the object is to provide an ordinary constructed lamp with means for supporting a drum or other device for heating articles over the chimney, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.

My invention is fully and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp having my .improvements applied thereto, and a small heating drum on the support extending over the top of the chimney. Fig. 2 isa similar view showing the handle or bracket formed with a socket and pin. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the plate or support fitted to the standard. Fig. tis a detail of the support removed from the socket in the bandle of the lamp. Fig. 5 is a detail view of a support having the plate or support hinged 01' plvotally connected thereto.

A designates a lamp of ordinary construction, and provided with the ordinary chimney. The handle of this lamp forms a part of my present invention, and is so formed that it constitutes a handle by which the lamp may be lifted and at the same time is made to support the standard which carries the plate over the chimney, and also, by which the lamp may be supported in a bracket having a socket. The handle is formed with a socket 2, in the upper portion of the part which connects it to the lamp, and at the outer part is formed with a depending pin 3, adapted to set in or engage with a socket in any ordinary bracket formed in a support.

B designates the standard the lower end of which is formed to fit in the socket 2 of the handle and to be maintained therein in vertical position. The topof the standard is formed with a shoulder 4, to aid in supporting the plate 0, which has an aperture 5, to set over the standard and be maintained in horizontal position over the top of the chimney, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. To give additional stability to the plate O a standard 10, (one or more) may be used; the foot being held on the bowl of the lamp by any suitable keeper, as 11, and the upper end detachably connected to the plate, substantially as shown in the drawings. If more than one standard, as 10, is used they are arranged on opposite sides of the lamp. On the plate 0 may be supported a drum 6, of any suitable construction, and which is provided with openings 7, through which the draft is maintained, and the heat discharged to the surrounding air. The plate or support 0 has a central opening 8, and on the surface of the plate are formed radially directed ridges 9, on which any vessel may be seated containing material that it is desired to be heated.

It will be perceived that the standard socketed in the handle of the lamp is detachable at will, as is also the plate from the standard, so that the lamp is utilized for the purposes of heating only as it may be desired to connect and attach the standard and plate for the purposes for which they are intended. The standard opposite to the main support is also detachable, and the lamp under the ordinary uses can be used for illumination as any other.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- 1. A lamp having a handle formed with a socket, a standard detachably fitted in the socket of the handle, and a plate secured to the top of the standard to set horizontally over and above the chimney of the lamp.

2. A lamp having a handle formed with a socket and a depending pin on the handle to engage a socket in a support, a standard detachably fitted in the socket of the handle, and a plate having a central opening and arranged to lie horizontally over and above the top of the chimney, substantially as described.

3. A lamp having a handle formed with a socket, a standard detachably fitted in the socket, a plate secured to the top of the standard to rest horizontally over and above the chimney of the lamp, and a standard 10, opposite to the socketed standard having one end lodged on the lamp and the other under the plate, as specified.
