DENTAL BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,828, dated September 12, 1893.

Be it known that I, ALONZO B. ELMORR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Magnolia, in the county of Columbia and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Dental Bracket, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to dental brackets, and has for its object to improve this class of devices and make the same convenient by providing a double table or support in connection therewith, and to simplify the construction of the parts in such manner as to render them comparatively inexpensive in manufacture and sale.

lVith these and other objects in View the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof as will be hereinatter more fully described and claimed.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dental bracket embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates an upright or post, that is secured to a suitable support preferably a wall or other surface adjacent to the operators chair or working position. The said post is formed with grooves 2 at the upper and lower parts thereof which are loosely engaged by hingeclips 3, whose ends are extended forwardly and inserted in slots 4 in the rear ends of parallel bars 5 and 6, by which means the said bars are pivotally attached to the said clips to move in a vertical plane. It will be seen that the said bars 5 and 6 also have a'lateral movement in a horizontal plane through the medium of the loose mounting of the hingeclips 3, that have bearing on the reduced parts of the post 1 by the formation of the grooves 2, and the lowermost bar 6 has its upper rear edge formed or provided with a series of teeth or notches 7. The said bars 5 and 6 have a pair of tie-bars S, pivotally connected to the opposite sides thereof and arranged in a vertical plane, said bars 8 being located adjacent to the teeth or notches 7 and are self-adjustable to compensate for the movement of the said bars 5 and 6. Near the front ends of the bars 5 and 6, and located on opposite sides thereof, are a pair of uprights 9, that are pivotally connected, arranged parallel with the bars 8, and whose upper ends extend above the bar 5 to support a table, tray or nest of drawers, as at 10, that may be used for dental or other purposes. Between the uprights 9 is mounted an elongated pawl or dog 11, which has its front end pivotally connected to the said uprights near the under edge of the bar 5. The said pawl or dog then extends rearward and normally falls downwardly by gravity to engage the teeth or notches 7 automatically when the bars 5 and 6 are adjusted, it being seen that the said pawl or dog is long enough to extend between and slightly rearward beyond the bars 8, to prevent the same from being moved laterally and sprung out of place, and is thereby always held in position to engage the said teeth or notches 7.

To the front ends of the bars 5 and 6 are secured hinge-clips 12, between which is located a rear head 13, of a curved forwardlyprojecting arm 14, the said head being pivotally held in connection with the said clips 12 by a pintle 15 that is passed through the said clips at an opening 16 of the said head, to thereby permit the said arm 14: to be freely and easily swung laterally in either direction in a horizontal plane. The free end of the arm 14 is slightly extended upward, as at 17, and thereon is secured a table, tray, or nest of drawers 18, that is intended to support the tools and implements used in dentistry, or for whatever other purpose the same may be used.

It will be seen that a simple and cheap construction of bracket is provided, embodying a double table, and one that is freely adjustable to accommodate itself to the position of the operator.

It will be understood that the bracket may be used for any desirable purpose, and changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is- The post or support 1, combined with the hinge-clips 3 loosely mounted thereon so as to swing horizontally, the parallel bars 5 and 6 pivotally attached to the hinge-clips 3, the

lower bar 6 being provided on its upper face adjacent to its inner end with ratchet teeth 7, the parallel uprights 9 pivotally connected to said bars 5 and 6 adjacent to the outer ends thereof, a pawl 11 pivotally mounted between the uprights 9 and engaging the ratchet teeth 7, the parallel tie-bars 8 pivotally connected to the bars 5 and 6 and arranged adjacent to the ratchet teeth and located at opposite sides of the pawl to prevent the latter from being accidentally disengaged from theratchet teeth by lateral movement, the hinge-clips 12 pivotally connected to the outer ends of the bars 5 and 6, and the arm 14 provided at its inner end with a vertically enlarged head hingedly I 5 In testimony that I claim the foregoing as :0
