SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,800, dated August 8, 1893. Application filed January 25, 1895 Serial No. 469,664. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN WOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eaves-Troughs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1, is a view showing two sections properly placed together. Fig. 2, is a detached view of a portion of one section, one end of which is provided with the groove, and guideflange, together with the open extended bead. Fig. 3, is a longitudinal section of a portion of one of the sections showing the groove.- Fig. 4, is a view showing the end of a section designed to be received by its adjacent section.
The present invention has relation to eaves troughs; and it consists in the peculiar manner of construction hereinafter described and particular pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.
In the accompanying drawings A, represents the sections of troughs which may be of any desired length or size. One end of each of the sections A, is provided withthe groove a, which groove is formed by bending a portion of the section A, down upon itself and then folding the remaining portion ofsaid section back over the first fold. For the purpose of providing a guide as b, the last bend or fold is formed at such a point that it will bring the raw edge of the sheet proper past and beyond the first bend or fold. For the purpose of forming the groove a, a sheet of metal should be placed upon the outer side of the portion of the sheet-metal, after the first fold has been made; and make the final fold over the sheet of metal, thereby leaving an open groove as a. For the purpose of providing a means for guiding the raw edge of a section A the bead G, is extended a short distance past and beyond the'guide b; and for the purpose of bringing the lips 0, into such a position that they will pass each other, the extended portion of the bead C, is provided with an opening cl, located directly above the lip c, which opening is formed of sufficient width to expose to view the entire width of the lip c, which is extended past and beyond the raw end of the guide b. The object and purpose of providing the opening 01, is to expose to view the lip c, which opening also extends over the guide I), which exposes to view the entire surface of the guide 1).
'In use that portion of the lip 0, under the opening d, is placed over or on top of the ad- -jacent lip c, which brings the ends of the beads 0, into proper position to pass the end of the bead located upon the end of the section A, into the extended end of the head 0,
at which time the ends of the sections are forced toward each other, until the edge X,is reached, at which time the raw end of the section is brought down against the concave side of the guide I), which brings the raw end of the section in proper position to be entered into the groove a, after which the sections are forced together until the raw end of the section A, reaches the end of the groove a, which completes the joint; or in other words, properly unites the sections together. It will be understood that by forming the opening d, and extending the same over the guide I), all of said guide will be exposed to view, which enables the operator to better bring the raw end of the section A, into position to be entered into the groove a. 7
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1 Thefcombination of the sections A,one end of each section provided with .the groove a, formed substantially as shown and described, the bead 0, extended from one end of each -section and provided with the opening (1, located directly above the lips c, and the guide I); the guide I), extended past and beyond the first bend of the section A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
