SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,757, dated August 8, 1893.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT S. PULLMAN, a citizen Of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county lof New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners; and I do declarej the following to be a full, clear, and exactv description of the invention, such as willjenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,`reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and represent, in-

The object of this invention isto further improve and perfect the means shown by me in the Letters Patent granted to me, and bearing date November 29, 1892.

A. is the body of a Teck tie of ordinary construction.

The body of fastener B is formed from sheet metal and is Of substantially rectangular shape. The
prongs e. e. e. e. are formed integraltherewith, and project, one, from eachl of the corners thereof. A portion F, also formed integral withrthe Abase plate or body of fastener, is wrapped around the shank of pin, or needle, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 5, the object being to hold the needle in place. The needle D is provided at its fixed end with a right angle bend, as shown in Fig. 3, the object being to hold the same from turning or revolving. A right angled bend G. is formed in the plate B. as shown in Figs. 2 and 3; an opening Or slot-is also formed in the right angle, or upright portion, as shown in Figs. 2, 4 and 5,'at 2. The pin, or needle, D. passes through such. slot and rests in the gutter or depression in the forward part of the base plate, as shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, and indicated by the letter I. The needle is ofspring materiaLandisbenttolie normally within the groove or depression 1.
The operation of the device is identical wi th that shown in the Letters Patent hereinbefore referred to, the object of the present invention being to cheapen the production and increase the efficiency of the former device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
As an article of manufacture a necktie` fastener consisting of a plate of sheet metal substantially rectangular'in' shape, and provided at its four corners with means as shown for securing the same in place, a right-angle oset in said plate and near one end thereof, a longitudinal slot in the vertical portion Of said offset, a spring n'eedle, or pin secured to, and beneath the free end of the longer of the offset portions the said'needle, or pin extending forward through the slot in the vertical portion, the point Of said needle, or pin resting normally within a recess formed in the top of the shorter, and forward of said offset portions, said needle, or pin adapted to be raised from out the said recess in the said forward portion substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
