Description

(N0 M d 1.)
0 6 J. PAUMGARTEN-FRAUEN'STEIN. ADJUSTABLE LAMP BRACKET I Patented July 25, 1893,
INVENTQR.
ATTORNEY,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J OHANNA PAUMGARTEN-FRAUENSTEIN, OF BERNSTADT, GERMANY.
ADJUSTABLE LAM P-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 502,011, dated July 25, 1893.
Application filed April 10, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHANNA PAUMGARTEN- FRAUENSTEIN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Bernstadt, in the Province of Silesia, Germany, have invented a certain new and Improved Adjustable Lamp- Bracket, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates in general to lampbrackets, and in particular to brackets, which are capable of being moved along a grooved or feathered way formed on the edge of a work and especially a sewing machine table, so as to bring the light into position, and to fasten or secure the light or lamp in such position by suitable fastening devices.
My invention consists of a lamp-bracket comprisingan arm, to which the lamp is secured, a stock provided with a guide adapted to move on a way formed on one edge of a work or other table, and a fastening device consisting of a pawl pivoted to the said stock and bearin g upon the said way, and a weighted lever for pressing the free end of the pawl onto the way. I
My invention further consists of certain details of the improved lamp-bracket as hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
My invention will be more fully understood taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which Figure 1. is a section of a part of a work table, one edge of which is provided with grooves for guiding the improved lampbracket shown in this application. Fig. 2. is a plan view of the part of work table and showing also the lamp-bracket and fastening device in this application, and Fig. 3. is asection on the line at w of Fig. 1, showing in detail the fastening device for the lamp-bracket.
Referring now to the drawings for afurther description of my invention, A is the top of any kind of a work or other table, provided near one of its edges with grooves a, which may be formed either on one or as shown on both sides of the said top, to form a way f.
B is the lamp-bracket for supporting the lamp B, consisting of the stock b and an arm b the stock I) is providedwith a guide or guides 11, fitting the way f formed by the groove or grooves a of the table top A, and an aperture e in the upper part thereof, to contain a shoe or pawl d pivoted at d to the Serial a. 469,650. on) model.)
said stock. To secure the said bracket and lamp, after they have been moved into the desired position, a weighted lever c is hinged at c to the upper part of the stock I) and provided with a cam 0 adapted to bear upon the pawl or shoed, to produce friction between the pawl cl and the wayf.
In use, the weighted lever c is raised, so as to disengage the pawl d with the way f and I the bracket 13 with lamp B moved to a posi-- tion desired, after which the lever c is allowed to be in a position as shown-in dotted lines in Fig. 3, so that the cam-portion c bears upon the pawl or shoe d to press the same upon the way f, the weight c -acting to produce sufficient friction, to maintain'the said lamp securely in position,
It will be understood, that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. For instance the way f may be formed by providing a longitudinal strip of any cross section on the table top A or a rod having a key seat or feather applied thereto.
Having thus fully describedthe nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A lamp-bracket comprising a stock and an arm to support a lamp, the stock provided with a guide adapted to move on a way formed on the edge of a work table, and a fastening device provided on the stock consisting of a pawl or shoe, hinged with one end to the said stock and having its other end in contact with the said way, and a weighted lever adapted to bear upon said pawl or shoe, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In an adjustable lamp-bracketa stock or socket adapted to slide on a way, a fastening device comprising a pawl or shoe hinged in an aperture in the said stock and a weighted lever hinged also in the said aperture and having a cam-shaped projection to contact with the said pawl or shoe, to press the same onto the said way, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed at the city of Breslau, Province of Silesia, Empire of Germany, this fourteenth (14th) day of March, 1893.
J OHANNA PAUMGARTEN-F RAUEN STEIN.
