POCKET-ERASER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part `0fl Letters Patent NO. 501,570, dated July 18, 1893.'
Application tiled February 2l, 1893. Serial No. 463,219. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may con/cern.-
Be it known that I, EUGEN LUsTNAUEE, a subject ot the King of Wrtemberg, residing at Pforzheim, in the Grand Duchy of Baden and Empire of Germany, have invented a new and Improved Pocket-Eraser, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new pocketeraser, which will answer more fully to the purpose of being carried in pockets. As it is known ordinary erasers or stationers rubbers without any protector when carried in pockets become useless in consequence of the dirt and dust deposited thereon. To obviate this inconvenience is now the object of the present invention. This object is attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is aside-view of the pocket-eraser,.
Fig. 2 is a section on the Fig. 3 is a section on the line y-y (Fig. l). Figs. 4 and 5 show the pocket-eraser in position for use. The protecting shells are more or less opened.
The rubber or eraser c is inclosed-in a protector, which consists of two abutting shells or casings a hinged together by means of a joint-pin b passing through overlapping lugs a in which the shells terminate. Thisjointpin b passing also through the rubber or in closed position. line (Fig. l).
eraser keeps thereby thelatter in the casings, so that it can not be removed orbe lost outof the protector.
For using the said eraser or rubber it is only necessary to open the protector by turning the shells or casings sidewise so that the eraser or rubber is free of the protector. The shells or casings of the said protector,'when not using the eraser or rubber, are held in the closed position by means of the friction between the Walls of the protector and the eraser or rubber.
It is obvious that any other suitable claspy may be employed for holding the shells or casings ofthe protector closed.
What l do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of two laterally opening casings a, having abutting edges and overlapping lugs a,with a' pivot b, passing through said lugs and with an eraser c, secured within the casings by the pivot, substantially as* specified.
Signed at Stuttgart, in the Kingdom of Wrtemberg and Empire of Germany, this 14th day of January, 1893.
' EUGEN LUSTNAUER.
