PLUMBERS HOOK.

` SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,484, dated July' 11, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, GEORGE REZNOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mercer, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plumbers Hooks for Fastening Gas and Water Pipes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. j

This invention has relation to that class of devices known to the trade as plumbers hooks, which are used to secure gas and water-pipes in the various positions necessary in a building. Heretofore these hooks have been made of forged metal, which is unnecessarilyv costly and produces an inferior article, and it is the object of this invention to provide an improved form of hook which maybe readily formed of a single piece of wire and which will be cheaper and stronger and more practical than the old forged hooks, as more fully hereinafter set forth.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the preferred form of hook, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a portion of a structure showing the manner of using the hooks, the hook shown at the right hand side of the figure being a slight modification.

The form of hook herein shown is adapted particularly for securing the pipes in corners, either vertically or horizontally, as shown at the right of Fig. 2, but it is evident that it may be used to hold them to the ceiling and in various other positions. As shown in the drawings this hook is formed of a single piece of wire which may be bent into shape by su-it- Serial No. 470,013. (No model.) f

able tools or machinery. It is formed into a curved part a, which is substantially semicircular and receives the pipe, and a single prong a sharpened to enable it to be driven into the adjoining wood-work. To provide a rigid and strong impact-shoulder, to enable it to be driven into the wood easily and without injury, the wire at the junction of the prong and curved part is formed into a closed eye a, which projects out from the prong on the opposite side from the curved part. This eye5 being quite small, is very rigid and is easily strucliby the hammer in driving.

Instead of making a closed loop for the driving shoulder, a rigid shoulder may be formed by bending into a loop of" having a substantially S-form, as shown at the right of Fig. 2.

This hook will be strong and durable and easily driven home without bending and it may be manufactured at much less cost than the old-style forged hook.`

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is A plumbers hook consisting of" a single piece of wire bent into a curved open supporting-part a and a straight prong d', a lateral impact shoulder being formed at the juncture of said two parts by bending the wire into a loop, substantially as described.
