UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB LINDENnAYER, or SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO PETER A. KRATZ, OF SAME PLACE.
STOVE-PIPE FAST-EN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 408,020, dated July 30, 1889.
Application filed October 18, 1888. Serial No. 288,487- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB LINDENMAYER, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and 5 useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Fasteners,
of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full,
clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to devices for securr ing the end of a stove-pipe in a hole in the side of the chimney; and the invention consists of a collar having secured to it springarms formed with overhanging loops which engage the end of the stove-pipe, and are I united by reversed and outwardly-inclined loops which engage the side of the stovepipe hole, as hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention in connection with the end of a stove-pipe, and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the end portion of a stove-pipe secured in the stove-pipe hole by my improved fastener. 2 5 Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
P represents the end portion of a stovepipe which is inserted into the stove-pipe hole It, as represented in Fig. 2 of the drawings. I
C denotes the collar which encompasses the stove-pipe and rests against the wall at the outer end of the stove-pipe hole of the chimney. I
5 a to designate spring-arms which extend from the back of the collar C and are formed into small overhanging loops Z) I), which engage theinner end of the stove-pipe and serve as stops for limiting the inward movement of the stove-pipe. From the said loops extends a large reversed loop a, which unites the arms a a, and is inclined outward from the stovepipe to form an anchor which engages the wall surrounding the stove-pipe and prevents the withdrawal of the collar 0 from the outer end of the stove-pipe hole.
The loop 0 acts as a spring, which by its pressure against the wall of the stove-pipe hole crowds the arms a a against the stove-pipe and thus clamps the latter so as to prevent it from slipping out- 5c ward from the collar 0, confined by the anchors c c at opposite sides of the stove-pipe.
(Z represents one of the braces, which is secured to the collar C and presses against the side of the stove-pipe between the sets of arms a a, arranged at opposite sides of the pipe, and serves to maintain the pipe in its cylindrical form, as hereinbefore set forth.
I do not limit myself to any specific form of the loops Z) Z) and 0, except that they must 6c engage the end of the stove-pipe so as to limit its .inward movement, and that the loop 0 must form an anchor which engages the wall of the stove-pipe hole, so as to prevent the outward movement of the stove-pipe.
The aforesaid arms and loops, with their intermediate stays or braces d, Iprefer to form of a continuous piece of wire or spring metal, by soldering or otherwise securing said wire at intervals of its length to the collar C, and bending its loose portions into the arms a a, loops 1) b and c, and loops (1, which latter constitute intermediate braces.
Having described my invention, what I claim .as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A stove-pipe fastener consisting of the collar C, the spring-arms cm, secured to the collar and formed with overhanging loops 1) b, and united by the reversed and outwardly- 8o inclined loop 0, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name, in the presence of two witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, this 15th day of October, 1888.
JACOB LIN DENMAYER.
