SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,423, dated July 1 1, 1893.

Application led April 1, 1893. Serial No. 468,684. (No model.)

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that we, THOMAS F. HOOD and WILLIAM G. SMITH, of Huffman, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swinging Churns; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in swinging churns, and the objects of the same,

" are, to provide a frame for the swinging churn which may be so elevated at one end to incline the churn body and thus discharge the cream from the opposite end of the same, and also to construct the frame so that it may be folded very compactly.

With these objects in view, our invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and especially referred to in the claims.

In the accompanying draWings,-Figure l, is aside elevation of oui-improved frame and swinging churn, the latter being shown in section. Fig. 2, is a similar view, one end of the frame being adjusted so as to incline the plane of the churn body. Fig. 3, is a view of the frame when folded. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the churn body.

The frame consists of the two long combined legs and supporting arm members A, which are pivoted between their ends between the S-shaped irons B, the latter having projecting from their upper ends the rigid supporting arms O, while between their lower ends are pivoted the legs D, as shown.

The upper ends of arms A together with arms C constitute supports for the swings E in which rests in a horizontal position the churn body F. Hooks G depending from the bottom of the churn body prevent the swings from disengaging the same while the upper ends of the swings are hooked as shown, to engage the brackets H projecting from the upper ends of the supporting arms.

B, for the purpose of placing the churn body in an inclined position, so that when the contents of the same is being run out it will all vbe forced to the discharge end of the churn.

If it is desired to store the churn when not in use or when moving it from place to place, the churn body may be readily removed from the frame and the latter folded as shown in Fig. 8, thus making it very compact and rendering it capable of very ready handling. As will be noticed the leg sections D and the supporting arms O turn down flatly upon the supports A owing to the movement of the S- shaped irons B, upon the latter.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. An improved churn supporting frame consisting of arms A, brackets pivoted between their ends to the said arms, supports secured to the upper ends of said brackets,

and legs secured to the lower ends thereof, substantially as shown and described.

2. An improved churn supporting frame comprising supports A, brackets pivoted between their ends to the said supports, supports C rigidly secured to the upper ends of said brackets, and legs pivotally secured to the lower ends of the brackets, substantially as shown and described.

3. An improved churn supporting bracket comprising supports A, S-shaped brackets O pivoted between their ends to the said supports, supports B rigidly secured to the said brackets, and legs D pivotally secured to the lower ends of the said brackets substantially as shown and described.
