Fmi. F1a@ WMM.- A y I A,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CAROLINE DU BUS, OF HORREM, GERMANY.
SAFETY-CATCH FOR PINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,184, dated July 11, 1893.
Application filed Fabri-lary 11, 1893. Serial No. 461,890. (No model.)
T @ZZ whom. it may con/cern.:
Beit known that I, CAROLINE DU BUs, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Horrem, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Catches for Pins, with description as follows.
This invention relates to a safety catch that prevents the spontaneous displacement of scarf pins, breast pins, hat pins and similar articles.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a side view of a scarf provided with my improved catch. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof; Fig. 3 a rear View of the catch; Fig. 4. an end view thereof with the lever raised. Fig. 5 a top View thereof; Fig. 6 an end view thereof with the lever lowered; Fig. 7 a front view of the catch and Fig. 8 a top View with the lever lowered.
The letter p, represents a plate provided at the top with an opening p2, and turned up at the bottom to form a pair of hooks p'. To the back of plate p, there is secured the lower end of a spring f, the hook-shaped upper end of which is perforated as at o, and projects forwardly through opening p2. The springf, is operated by a lever h, hinged to the spring and havinga curved end h', that bears against back of plate p.
- ing to the elasticity of the spring, needles of different thicknesses may be accommodated by the same catch.
The lower hook-shaped end of plate p, engages the scarf B, or other article and thus holds the device in place.
What I claim is The combination of a perforated' plate p,
with a perforatedl bent spring projecting through said plate and with abent lever pivoted to the spring and adapted to bear against the rear face of the plate, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CAROLINE DU BUS. Witnesses.:
EBERHARD voN CLAER, FRITZ SCHROEDER.
