OLIVE A. WILOOX, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BAKE-OVEN SLIDING DRAWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letterslatent No. 500,522, dated J une 27, 1898.
Application iiled December 7, 1892. Serial No. 454,422. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, OLIVE A. WILCOX, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bake-Oven Sliding Drawers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in bake oven sliding drawers and consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts,'as will be more fully hereinafter described and designated in the claim.
The object of my improvement is to construct an attachment for stoves, which in use is adapted to eliminate the necessity of reaching into the interior of the oven to withdraw any of the pans or kitchen utensils therein, and also prevent the heat from the oven from entering the room in which the stove is located.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a range showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the drawers removed from the range. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken through the complete stove, the oven and sliding drawers. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the drawer showing the application of rollers underneath the sides of same.
Referring to the drawings: 1 indicates a complete household range with my invention applied thereto.
2 indicates the sliding drawer as contemplated in my invention, the same comprising a bottom portion 3, having a rear end wall 4 at right angles with said bottom portion, and a front wall 5 in vertical alignment with the rear wall 4 and provided upon its outer side with a handle 6, by means of which the drawer is operated.
In the accompanying illustrations I have shown the upper of the drawers as located in the stove, provided with an imperforatebottom, but the drawer as shown in Fig. 2 is provided with a number of elongated rectangular openings 7 to allow a more thorough circulation of heat within the oven.
In the side walls S of the oven I have pro= vided aligned guide-strips 9, as particularly 5o shown in Fig. 3, and which are adapted to serve as guides for the movement and operation of the drawers.
Projecting outwardly from the front wall lO of the range l and coincident with the guide-strips 9 are horizontal arms l1, which form the upper bars of the brackets 12 which may be of any suitable design and construei tion. The bracket construction l2 prevents the drawer when pulled out from having any 6o side movement, that is, when said drawer is located below an upper series of slides 1l. The under sides of the drawers 2 are provided with rollers 13 which are adapted to facilitate the necessary movement of said drawers 2 and at the same time do not deteriorate the action of the parts.
The main object of my invention is to prevent the scorching of the hands and face,
when it is desired to remove any article from 7o the oven.
It is well known that thel opening of oven doors is a detrimental feature to the successful operation of a stove or range, in that a large amount of the heat is allowed to pass out into the room and a corresponding amount of cold air enters into the oven, thus chilling whatever article may be cooking therein. To obviate this objection I have provided the rear wall 4 of the drawer 2, which when said 8o drawer is pulled out closes the opening in the oven and neither admits the cold air nor allows the heated air to become distributed throughout the room.
It is a well known fact that ordinarily in removing pans, &c.,from the rear of the oven it is necessary to remove the pans in front of those which are to be taken out and replace them again after the desired pan has been removed. It is therefore believed that the idea 9o as contemplated in my invention coviates the objectionable features to ranges having ovens as now constructed, and provides a useful substitute therefor, the same being an improvement over previous constructions.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that I provide the bake oven of the stove or range with a series of at least two separate sliding drawers, disposed one above the other and separately kdetachable from the frame of l the stove or range by pulling out.
Having fully described my invention, what As an improvement in stoves, the herein described sliding bake oven drawers comprising a plate provided with elongated rectangular openings in its surface, forward ,and rear 1o endwalls atright angleswithsaid plate, gnide' i strips secured to the inner side of the oven upon which said drawers are adapted to op- 4
