To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, ANNIE E. ENGLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Calvert, in the county of Cecil and btate of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Oven and Warming-Gloset; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art tains to make and use the same.

The object of the invention is to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive l structure which can be used interchangeably as an oven and as a warming closet in connection particularly. with oil and as stoves in the employment of which di 'culty is ordinarily experienced in the fact that victuals after being cooked cannot be kept in a hot conditionin the event of any delay in serving the same or when there is a necessity for postponing the service, without involving the risk of drying out or overcooking or burning the food and thus for use, and the Iurther dificulty that when several dishes are to be prepared, that is to say greater than can beaccommodated upon the several burners with which the stove is provided, those which are first prepared cannot be kept in a proper condition while others are being prepared or cooked; and a further and incidental object of the invention is to provide means whereby the apparatus may converted from one use to the other, that is to say from its use as an oven to that of a warming closet, or the reverse thereof, with the minimum of effort and loss of time upon the part of the operator and without involving any adjustment or rearrangement; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of arts of which a preferred embodiment is s own in the accompanying drawings, wherein c Figure 1 is a perspective view,

to which it apper-' The apparatus consists essentially of a casing 10, which obviously may be of any preferred or desired dimensions and shape to suit the purposes of the user and the size of the stove or the number of burners with which the stove is provided, or which it is desired shall be used in connection with the device, on the front of which is arranged a door 11 giving access to the interior which is provided with terminal ledges 12 for supportin shelves or trays 13.

16 and 17, by the alternate use of which the structure is converted into either an oven suitable for baking, roastin and the like, and a warming closet in which food may be kept at the de sired temperature for an indefinite length of time. The box member 16 consists of an upper wall 18, a front wall 19 and end walls 20, the to and end walls being laterally flanged as in icated at 21 to bear against the exterior surface of the casing, and the rear of said box being open, so that when this member is in use and the structure is arranged upon the stove plate, the burners, while furnishing heatto the warming closet, which consists of the portion of the interior of the casing above the plane of the upper wall of said box, to keep it at a proper temperature, at the same time are accessible for use in cooking or reparin other articles of food. F or examp e a kett e of water may be arranged over one of the burners, the other being out of use, or other articles as above indicated may be cooked on both or all of the burners which can be reached through the opening at the rear of the box; or by keeping one of the burners in operation with the fiame turned down very low, a sufficient heat Will be conveyed to the warming closet to maintain the proper temperature therein, and articles or dishes may be introduced into or removed from the compartment used under these conditions as a warming closet and located above the lane of the upper wall of the box 16, either y means of the main oven door 11 or the supplemental door 14-. The alternative or interchangeable member 17 consists of a wall plate or section which is adapted to be fitted to the opening 15 in the rear wall of the casing and is provided with turn buttons 22 or equivalent fastening means for engagement with the edges of the wall opening to secure said plate or section in osition to complete the oven when it is desired to use the latter for baking or roasting. In this connection it is preferred to use a tray shelf 23 consisting of a rack adapted to be supported upon the lowermost ledges of the oven wall and having impendent relation therewith a deflector or baffle plate 2% terminally supported from the rack and adapted to serve as a means of distributing the heat as it rises from the burner so that a uniform temperature may be maintained in the oven.

Also as will be understood ventilating openings 25 may be provided in the end walls or in any other convenient position in the casing, and peep holes 26 may be provided in the front wall and may be fitted with isinglass or other light penetrable mediums or panels to enable the operator to observe the condition of the interior of the oven and the state of the burners and the like. i

The casing 10 is provided with handles 10. The oven door 11 is provided with sight openings 11 covered by transparent panels 11 and the warming closet door 14 is provided with a ventilator 14*. A handle 21 is secured to the box member 16, and the oven door 11 is removably secured in closed position by turn buttons 11. The casing 10 is provided with a bottom front flange 10 bottom end flanges 10 and rear side flanges 10. The member 16 cooperates with these flanges and with the side and end walls of the casing to provide passages 10 which are closed except at their upper ends where they communicate with the compartment above and formed by the to wall of the member.

Having thus descri ed the invention, what I claim is 1. A convertible oven and warming closet having interior shelves and a door for giving access to the interior, and having one of its sides cut away near the bottom to form an members for opening, and interchangeabk said members closin said 0 enin one o consisting of an interiorly accessible box for partitioning the interior of the casing.

2. A convertible oven and warming closet interiorly divided by a horizontal partition to form upper and lower compartments of which the latter is bottomless and is exposed interiorly through an opening in the side of the closet, and end walls on said partition spaced from the end walls of the closet.

3. A convertible oven and warming closet interiorly divided by a horizontal partition to form an upper and lower compartment of which the latter is bottomless and is exposed interiorly through an opening in the side wall of the closet and a side wall and end walls on said partition spaced from one side wall and the end'w'alls of the closet to form passages in communication with the upper compartment.

l. A convertible oven and warming closet having an opening in its bottom and an opening in one of its sides near its bottom, a removable member positioned in the closet and having an open bottom and side adjustable said openings in the closet, and a member for closing said side opening of the closet after the removal of saidfirst member.

5. A convertible oven and warming closet having an opening in its, bottom and an opening in one of its sides near its bottom, bottom and side flanges formed on the closet about said openings, and a member removably positioned within the closet and having top and front and end walls cooperating with said flanges and the adjacent walls of the closet to provide passages communicating with the closet above the top wall of said member and having their lower. ends closed.

6. A convertible oven and warming closet having an opening in its bottom and an opening in one of its sides near its bottom, and a removable member positioned in the closet and having a top and a front and end walls cooperating with the closet to provide an upper compartment and a lower compartment and passages about the lower compartment communicating with the upper compartment, the lower compartment being open at one side and the bottom.
