lNTERFERlNG-STRAP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,209, dated June 2'7, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDMUND F. PALMER, of the city of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Interfering-Straps for Horses, of which the following,

taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to devices applied to the ankles of horses for the purpose of preventingand protecting them from interfering. And the invention consists in a novel construction of an interfering strap which is strong, durable and efiective in its use, said construction being hereinafter fully described and specifically set forth in the claims.

The annexed drawing represents a plan view of an interfering strap embodying myinvention.

a represents a band or strap of leather or other suitable flexible and strong material. This band or strap I provide with spurs a'a' which extend radially outward therefrom. I preferably form said spurs integral with the strap aby folding the same upon itself at intervals of its length and firmly uniting the layers of the respective folds either by sewingor otherwise. In case the strap is too pliable I stiiten the spurs or folded portions of the strap by inserting into the folds reinforcing strips -b of leather or other suitable material and firmly fasten them therein preferably by the same means which unite the layers of the folds as aforesaid.

To the inner side of the band or strap a I sew or otherwise fasten a stiifening band cpreferably of leather, and by inserting blocks dd between the bands c and -aat the bases of the spurs or folded parts a'a and securely fastening said blocks in their positions, the said spurs are properly braced and sustained in their radial positions.

For attaching the described interfering strap to the horses ankle one end of the strap a has attached to it the buckle c and the opposite end of said strap is perforated and adapted to pass through the buckle and receive the tongue thereof through the perforation.

WVhat I claim as my invention is 1. An interfering strap consisting of a continuous band folded upon itself into the shape of a plurality of spurs at intervals of its length and projecting outward from the band, a buckle attached directly to one end of said band, and reinforcing strips inserted in the folds and firmly united therewith, as set forth.

2. The combination of the strap a formed with folds aa reinforcing strips b inserted in the folds and fastened thereto, stiffening band c secured to the inner side of the strap, and bracing blocks (Zd inserted between the strap -a and band c at the bases of the folds a, substantially as described and shown.
