Description
R E D E O R H O S H J (No Model.)
BEDGLOTHES CLAMP.
Patented June 20, 1893..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. SOI-IROEDER, OF RUSH CITY, MINNESOTA.
BEDCLOTH ES-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 499,855, dated June 20, 1893.
Application filed December 2'7, 1892. Serial No. 4 32 N 111M161) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN I-I. SCHROEDER, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of- 'hammock or other device; and the said invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a transverse section of a complete bed provided with clamps constructed according to my invention, the section being taken on line 11 of the succeeding figure; Fig. 2, a section taken on line 22 of the preceding figure, my clamp being illustrated in side elevation, and Fig. 3, a detail section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents one section of my clamp in the form of a longitudinally grooved bar having perforated ears I), c, the first of these ears being for engagement with nails or screws (Z by which said section of the clamp may be held in place upon a suitable support. One end 6 of the clamp-section just described is at an angle to the remaining portion thereof and has a series of serrations upon its under side for the purpose hereinafter specified.
Pivotally connected to the ears 0 and between the same is the other section B of the clamp in the form of a lever having the free end thereof provided with a perforation f pivotally engaged by a bail O of peculiar form, this free end of the lever being at an angle approximately the same as the corresponding end of the grooved bar or stationary section A of said clamp.
The bail 0 above noted is in the form of two loops, one above the other, and either of these loops may be engaged with the serrations on the end e of the clamp-section A, according to the thickness of material interposed between both clamp-sections, the ten sion of the lever-section B being of variable degree, incidental to the disposition of said bail with relation to said serrations. The grooved bar and lever sections of the clamp are cast or otherwise formed from suitable metal, and the connecting bail is made from wire or such other material as may be found most desirable for the purpose.
In connection with a bed-stead any desirable number of. clamps may be employed, but ordinarily a set of five will be sufficient 1f disposed as follows: one on the foot-board and two on each side-rail, upon the inner sides of said parts of the bedstead.
The bed-clothing being fastened down by I ing ears and having one of its ends serrated upon the under side and turned at an angle to the remaining portion thereof, a lever pivotally connected to the other end of the bar to face the groove therein and having its free end at an angle approximate to that of the serrated portion of. said bar, and a bail depending from this free end of the lever, substantially as set forth.
2. A clamp comprising a longitudinally grooved bar provided with perforated attaching ears and having one of its ends serrated upon the under side and turned at an angle to the remaining portion thereof, a lever pivotally connected'to the other end of the bar to face the groove therein and having its free end atan angle approximate to that of the serrated portion of said bar, and a double loop bail depending from this free end of the lever, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Rush City, in the county of Ohisago and State of Minnesota, in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN H. SCHROEDER.
Witnesses:
FRANCES T. KUDERER, FIDEL SCHMITZ.
