UNITED STATES PATENT GEEIcE.
LOUISA B. SADDINE, OF HOT` SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
WATER-COOLER.,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,817, dated June 6, 1893. Application filed November 8, 1892. Serial No. 451,345- (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Louisa B. SADDINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hot Springs, in the county of Garland and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tater-Coolers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
The particular purpose of 1n cooler is to so have the ice placed in the'center ofthe cooler that the water may be quickly cooled and kept cool-and at the same time not come in contact with the ice.
To this end my invention is constructed as follows:
A, is the tank, a, is the faucet, a', are the handles, and B, is the cover. Said tank `is a non-conductor and consists of the outside tank A, and inside can C, which are united at the bottom and top by annular pieces c. Said inside can is provided on its inner face, near its mouth with annular projection o; on said annular projection rests a strainer. side can,is provided with an interior truncated cone-shaped bottom D, the bott-om edge of which is united with the bottom edge of the interior can C, in such a manner that said can C, is water-tight, the water surrounding said bottom. I providea base E, for the tank A, to sit on. In the center and on the upper face of said cooler, is secured a truncated cone-shaped ice-holder F, that exactly tits on theinside of the truncated cone-shaped bottom D. Saidtruncatedcone-shapediceholderF,is provided with a partition f,leaving a considerable space between said partition and base E,
Said inv the spaces between the tank and inside can is iilled with charcoal and saw dust, or other non conductors, and the space between the partition f, and the base E, is also iilled with saw dust and charcoal or other non conductorsN The neck ot the faucet passes through both tank and can, so as to reach the water.
In manipulating my water cooler the ice chest F, is rst filled with ice, the can is then set down over said ice-holder onto the base E. The strainer o2, is then put in place and the water poured into the cooler through the strainer and then the cover B, is put on.` Said cover B, may also be provided with a pocket just above the strainer to be packed with a non conductor if desired. y
It will be seen, I think, that my cooler is constructed diderently from any now in use. I have no splashing of water when the ice 1s put in. It is quickly and without trouble packed into t-he ice chest, and when the tank is set down over the chest, the cold quickly passes through the metal and chills the water. With this arrangement pure water may be used and cooled without coming in contact with the ice. Recent scientific discovery has developed the fact that ice contains many germs of disease and for that reason it is not always safe to come in contact with the water we use.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A water-cooler having its base portion pro- LOUISA B.A SADDINE.
