UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUSSELL BONNELL, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
WATER-COOLER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUssnLL BONNELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ater-Coolers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to coolers for water or other liquid; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed whereby the liquid is cooled in its original containing vessel and is tapped oil therefrom as required, without passing through or into any intermediate vessel or pipe.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical section through a cooler constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
A is the original containing vessel or bottle in which a supply of pure water for drinking purposes, or other liquid, is placed. A small valve or spigot B is inserted in place of the usual cork or stopper.
C is the ice chamber which is constructed of any approved form. The walls of this chamber may be constructed in any of the ways common in refrigerating vessels to prevent the ice contained in them from melting too fast, such as for instance the walls may be double and having a packing of saw-dust between them.
D is a guide arranged in an inclined position in the chamber C, and c is an opening in the wall of the chamber, at the lower part of the guide, through which the neck Z) of the bottle is caused to protrude.
E is a packing or gasket of soft material such as india rubber, secured to the wall of the chamber around the opening 0, for the upper end portion 03 of the bottle to bear against when the bottle is resting on the guide.
F is a small valve secured to the bottom of the chamber C to let out the water formed by the melting ice.
G is a cover for the chamber C. This cover is preferably pivoted to the main portion of the chamber by a hinge g, and h is a Specification of Letters Patent.

catch arranged at the opposite side of the chamber from the hinge. This catch is of any approved construction which will secure the cover to the chamber, and any other approved means may be used for connecting the cover to the main portion of the chamber.
H is a handle at the top of the cover for raising it.
I are steel springs secured to the cover and arranged to press against the bottom end 2' of the bottle. One or more springs may be provided, and their use is to press the bottle into water-tight engagement with the packing when the cover is closed and secured in position. The cooler is mounted on any suitable base or stand, and it is pro vided with the usual accessories. The water is drawn direct from the bottle, as wanted, and is not contaminated by being passed through any intermediate vessel or pipe.
What I claim is:
1. In a cooler, the combination, with an outer chamber for ice provided with an opening at its lower part and having a hinged cover at its top, and a packing arranged around the said opening; of a bottle for holding the liquid to be cooled arranged with its neck protruding through the said opening, and resilient means, for pressing the said bottle against the said packing, secured to the said cover and arranged between it and the bottom of the bottle.
2. In a cooler, the combination, with an outer chamber for ice provided with an opening at one side of its lower part and having a cover hinged to its upper part on the opposite side from the said opening, and a packing arranged around the said opening; of a bottle for holding the liquid to be cooled, an inclined guide, for supporting the said bottle, said guide being secured in the said chamber between the said opening and the cover hinge, and a spring secured to the cover adjacent to the hinge and adapted to press the bottle against the packing when the cover is closed.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
RUSSELL BONNELL. lVitnesses ARTHUR P. CAMPBELL, W. F. CAWTI-IORNE.
