Be it known that I, GEORGE E. ADAMS, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Cast-0ff Pulleys or Runners for Garment-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to improvements in cast-off devices for suspenders or garment supporters, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which shall be applicable to those suspenders or garment supporters in which a cord or other flexible connection, passing over a pulley, is employed to ease the movements of the wearer.

The invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts all as will be now described and pointed out particularly in the appended claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the members opened for the discharge or insertion of the cord or other flexible connection. Fig. 3 is a section through the device closed, and Fig. 4 is a similar view open.

In a large class of suspenders in common use, provision is made for easing the strains incident to the movements of the wearer, by the employment of pulley arrangements over or through which, a round cord or otherflexible connection passes and connects to the garment or suspender, as the case may be, with which arrangements, however, it is difficult to insert the cord after the ends have been properly formed, or to release the' same quickly, without disconnecting the ends from the garment. To overcome these defects, I now provide a pulley device which as shown in the drawings, consists of a loop A or equivalent for attachment to the suspender in the usual manner, and having suspended therefrom a cheek B, struck up of proper shape to accom modate the cord, and having the hollow pintle or rivet C upon which the pulley or sheave D is journaled, connected rigidly thereto near the bottom. This hollow pintle is headed up on the outside of the sheave or pulley to retain the same in position while permitting it to rotate freely. A second cheek F is provided, hinged to the cheek B, preferably by means of the loop A, and adapted to swing out to permit the cord to be freely inserted or removed as indicated in Figs. 2 and 4, or to be swung in, and held by a snap catch projection entering the hollow pintle. In the preferred construction, the snap catch is formed by striking inward, a small circular or curved portion H of the hinged cheek, in position to enter the hollow pintle and bear firmly against its upper side, thereby not only holding the cheeks together to retain the cord, but also serving to support the outer end of the pintle when in condition to receive the strains of usage.

For convenience in releasing, the outer or hinged cheek may be provided with a depending finger or thumb piece I.

In manufacturing, the cord may have the button hole ends or other enlargements applied thereto before theparts of the Suspender are assembled and the cord may be renewed at any time,besides'which, in use,the wearer can easily release the cord at any time, and as easily catch the same in place. When the checks are closed, the device will be found to be as strong as the ordinary pulley devices, and inasmuch as the cord can never pull directly outward, there is little or no danger of the device opening accidentally.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a cast-off pulley for garment supporters, the combination with the cheek having the pintle rigidly connected therewith and the pulley or sheave journaled on said pintle, of the hinged cheek working in against and cooperating with the outer end of the pintle to retain the cord and support the pintle; substantially as described.

2. In a cast-off pulley for garment supporters, the combination with the cheek having the hollow pintle secured thereon and the pulley or sheave journaled on said pintle and held by the headed outer end of the pintle, of the hinged cheek having the projection struck up therefrom and adapted to enter the hollow pintle to close the device and support the outer end of the pintle; substantially as described.

3. In a cast-off pulley for garment supporters, the combination With the loop, the cheek suspended therefrom, the headed hollo pintle rigidly secured to the lowerendof the said cheek and the pulley or sheave journaled on the said pintle, of the cheek hinged to the loop and having the inwardly extending projection for entering the outer end of the p ntle to form a snap catch to support said p1ntie and hold the cheeks closed; substantially as described.
