To all whom it may concern: I Be it known that I, JOHN HARVEY GIBSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bruin, in the county of Butler and'State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and

will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereomwhich form a part of this'specification.

My invention relates to harness, and has for its object to provide a breast plate which will fit the horse snugly without undue pressure on the wind pipe and also to render the attachment of the breast plate tothe harness more secure and convenient thereby simpli lying and increasing the efficiency of the barness. I

This breast plate is also provided with a heavy loop 3 to receive the hold-back strap when it is used for a double harness, and is also provided with loops 4 to receive a shoulder strap. By providing forks for the ends of the traces and securing the. traces therein by means of the rivets 8, the traces are securely clamped or held in place- An extra strip 9 may be placed in the forks against the outside of the traces as shown in Fig. 2 or againstthe inside of the traces as shown in Fig. 2 so as to give increased strength, and-if desired traceswhichhave already been used may beattached to these outside or inside stripextensions by buckles or otherwise If desired this breast plate can be covered with leather, and part of itinay be padded, although 0w- 'ing to its shape it can be used without padding as practice has demonstrated that it will not chafe or rub the horse even though no I padding be used. It is preferred however to. g apply one ply of leather to the inside of the same which may be a continuation of the strip 9 in which event the latter maybe lighter thantwhen made separate therefrom, and in suchjcase it is preferred to make the strip a little wider than the breast plate as illustrated in-Fig.2 so that the padding indicated by" 1? may be stitched to it.

I have described with particularity the preferred construction of the several parts of vthe device but it is obvious that changessin such details can be made without departing from the'spirit 0f the invention.
