UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD J. RICHARDSON, OF NEWPORT, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
PRESS-BOARD AND SUPPORT FOR SAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,083, dated May 23, 1893.
Application filed July 8, 1892. Serial No. 439,373- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. RICHARDSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at N ewport, in the county of Sullivan and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Press-Boards and Supports for the Same; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it eppertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to the class of boards used by tailors where several sizes of small boards are required.
The object of the invention is to provide the necessary-number of boards conveniently at hand, and arranged in a manner so that the boards whichare not being used may be out of'the way.
The invention consists of the revolving stand or support to which several boards may be pivoted and brought into a horizontal position when required for use, all of which will be fully set forth in the following specification and claim and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of the same, of which a single sectional elevation is deemed sufficient to show the invention.
The base A, should be secured to the floor I at a convenient distance from a pressing table, and this supports an upright, B, which is preferably made of hollow iron. The upper portion of said upright B, is threaded as at b, and to this is threaded the adjustable press-board support 0, carrying several boards D, of diiferent widthsand lengths, some of which may have a soft covering. These pressboards D, are for pressing the seams of sleeves and trousers.
My improved support 0, is provided with sockets c, for the large ends of the boards D, in which they are adj ustably secured by a pivot-pin E, and held normally in an upright position by a suitable spring F, thus enabling the boards to be within convenient'or handy reach at all times and still entirely out of the way, the support 0, being revolved as may be required to bring the desired board in the proper position, when said board is lowered to a horizontal position and supported by resting upon the adjustable support at c,and under the shoulder 0 of the clamp C, which is threaded to the upper portion of the said support 0, as shown. The boards may be easily elevated or lowered as may be desired by means of the threaded upright post B, which may be connected in this manner to the'base A, or to the support .0, as shown. Central strips 0!, may be secured to the boards D to add strength.
Having described my invention, what. I claim is The combination of a series of press boards pivotally connected to a support, and adapted to close vertically when not required for use, the said support which is mounted and vertically adjustable upon an upright post, the said post and its base, substantially for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD J. RICHARDSON.
