SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,064, dated May 23, 1893.
Application inea December 20,1892. serial No. 455.756. (Nomea.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY KoRB and SIMON KRUG, both residents of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State lof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to provide, a cheap, durable and convenient match safe or box. Our improved match box can be secured to the bottom of counters, tables, &c.; can be pulled out for use and when released the match box will spring back to itsnormal position.
In the accompanying drawings rforming part of this specification Figure l is a top View of a counter partly broken away with our improved match box attached, the match box being partly drawn or pulled out to reach the matches, the part under the counter being shown by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a side view of our improved match box attached to a counter, part of the box proper and the attachments by which the box is attached to the counter are shown in section, and Fig. 3 is a top view ot' the box, as it appears when drawn out from under the counter, the connectin g plate being removed showing the spiral springs which control the movements of the box, one spring being loose and the other taut.
A represents the box proper, which is provided With an extension B, containing an annular recess C. This annular recess O is di- F also has a depending lug K, against which the springs E, E impinge when the box is moved inward or outward.
The box A is roughened at a on one side so vas to provide a surface'on which to strike the matches, and is provided with holes b, through which the sediment from the matches drops. The connecting plate F is first screwed to the under part of the table or counter. The match box proper is then fitted thereto, the pivot post H is allowed to pass through the hole d in the extension B of the box proper. A few blows ot' the hammer on the head of the post H will secure the proper connection of the box to the connecting plate and counter or table.
When it is desired to procure a match the box is drawn or pulled outward as shown in Fig. l. When the match has been taken from the box, the hold on the match box is released and the box through the agency of the springs E,'E is forced to its former positionunder the counter. When the box is drawn out the spring E is compressed and the spring E released. When the hold is released the springs E and E find their normal position. The various parts may be differently formed 'and the springs formed and connected otherwise than herein shown.
What we claim as new and of our invention,
and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a match box, a connecting plate secured to the table or counter; in combination with a match box provided with an extension pivoted to said connecting plate and having a recess, a lug on the plate, and a coiled spring seated in said recess and bearing at one end' HENRY KORB. SIMON KRUG.
