Description

(No Model.)
S. ILGEN.
VENTILATED CAN COVER.
No. 497,961. Patented May 23, 1893.
q/V LMwoM/a MAM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SUSANA ILGEN, OF MILES CITY, MONTANA.
VENTILATED CAN-COVER.
SPECIFICATIOIQ forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,961, dated May 23, 1893. Application filed July 25, 1892. Serial No. 441,110. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SUSANA ILGEN, of Miles City, in the county of Custer and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilated Can-Covers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in ventilated covers for milk cans, designed for its simplicity of construction and to allow a current of air to circulate over the milk.
I have set forth fully hereinafter the details of construction and the essential features of my invention and illustrated them in the accompanying drawing, in i which I have represented my invention in perspective.
A is a circular cover, made of thin metal or other light substance, composed of the flat rim B and crown C, and adapted to be placed on a pan D. On the upper surface of the crown C are ventilators E, the top of each of which is covered by a screen F, shown in dotted lines, and a cone shaped dust guard G. In the vertical surface of the crown O are two or more ventilators I-I covered with a screen I and dust guard J. Secured to the rim B are four upright posts K which are bent at right angles to form the support for the pan L,which is similar to pan D and for the same purpose, and on which is intended to be placed a second cover similar to A and in this manner any number of cans can be placed one above the other.
By means of myinvention a current of air is allowed to circulate over the milk or cream and at the same time dust and insects are prevented from reaching the contents of the can.
The racks generally used in dairies to separate cans of milk are entirely dispensed with when my invention is used as it answers the twofold purpose of preventing foreign particles from settling on the surface of the cream, and at the same time separates the pans L, D.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A cover for milk-cans, composed of flat rim B and crown C, said crown having on its upper surface two or more ventilators E, said ventilators being covered by screen F and dust guard G, the vertical surface of said crown having ventilators H, each of said latter ventilators being covered with screen I and guard J substantially as described and in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
