SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,674, dated May 16, 1893. Application filed September 21,1892. Serial No. 446,428. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, LINCOLN H. MILLEN and WILLIAM L. MGCAMMON, citizens of the United States, residing at Beatrice, in the county of Gage and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Rein -Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a rein holding clamp for the use of harness makers and has for its object to properly hold the rein while being sewed, and with this object in view the ill- Vention consists of the construction and arrangement of the parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a similar View thereof with the parts disconnected.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1, designates a jaw having curved hooks 2, and ears 3, at the ends thereof through one of which is passed a clamping screw 4, for the purpose of securing the device to a saddlers horse. Another jaw 5 is provided and has slots 6 therein to loosely receive the hooks 2, and thereby form a hinged connection for the said jaws 1 and 5. The said jaw 5 is also supplied with ears 7 for properly positioning,
the device in connection with the horse and obviating lateral or longitudinal movement. The upper edge of each of the jaws 1 and 5 is formed with a bead 8 with end portions 9 curved and enlarged, adapted to grip the rein and forming an opening with curved walls, the inner portions of each of said be ads bein g concaved to carry out the curved construction of the opening throughout the length of the entire device.
The device when in use is applied to a horse as before stated and is adapted for holding the rounded portions of reins while sewing the same, the said reins being located in the opening between the aforesaid end portions 9. The reduced portion between the said end portions 9 as at 10, provides convenient means for sewing the rein as willbe readily seen and the parts of the device entire being of a simple and effective nature provide a cheap and useful device for the purpose set forth.
The size of the device may be varied and the material employed in making the same will be of such a nature as best adapted for the purpose.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a device of the character set forth, the combination of two jaws loosely connected at their lower edges by curved books on one of the said jaws removably engaging openings in the other jaw and each having an upper bead with end curved extensions and inner concavities, and a clamping screw in counection with the side of one of said jaws, substantially as described.
